Event comments:

Everyone told me this was not a race for a PR because it's so massive, but that didn't stop me from trying. I climbed into the 25 minutes and under corral versus the 25 and over (and a good thing, too, because there were lots of walkers and joggers in the fast runner corral - can't imagine how it was in the walker/25+ corral).

I figured the crowd would help keep me from going out too hot, but there wasn't much of a crowd and guess what? I went out too hot. The first mile I was maintaining a 8-8.5 min/mile pace, and by the 2-mile point I'd completely blown up and could only do 10. My friends who were high school track athletes always said there's no such thing as a pacing plan for a 5k but I think that's wrong. I know I can maintain 8:15-8:45 for a 5k at the end of the tri, and I know I can run one in 7:45, so there's got to be a way to balance that to come up with a solid 8:30-8:55 pace for a standalone 5k.

All in all, a great workout - considering this was
