I recently completed a four day camp put on by my tri coach. There was a total of 8 guys involved, and was a great experience. You don't know what you are capable of until you do it.

Here was the schedule:

thurs 7:00 am- 5 k swim
70 mile bike
6 mile run
fri- 10 mile run
70mile bike
2.5k swim
sat- 100 mile ride
6 mile run
2k swim
sun- 2k swim
40 mile bike
7 mile run
It was all local guys I know, but we all got to know each otehr a lot better and pushed each otehr to go further and harder. I have never cycled like this before, for sure. Having a pace line for a century ride was pretty amazing. We broke off a bit, but on the flats, we lined them up and rolled like a train.
If anybody has an opportunity to attend one. DO IT!!

HOLY MOLEY! You are an animal! You are a machine! Wow... if I ever get to that point of back to back heavy duty rides, swims and runs may the fat lady sing!

My hat's off to ya!

Actually, I was just thinking yesterday that there should be TRI CAMPS. But I was thinking more of a novice level. Would be fun to train together, motivate each other, push each other and culminate it all with a race to see how much we've learned and improved.

It really wasn't as bad as it reads. You just get up and do the next workout. Normally, we would do the first workout and then chill out, eat and reast for an hour or so, then do the next workout, come back, eat chill out, nap and then do the last workout. The main guy, who is also my coach has a lake house in Michigan, so we did all open water swims, with runs around teh lake and bikes all over southwest Michigan. It was totally a great experience. It isn't like we did all 3 workouts in one shot. We fueled, hydrated and rested in between. Believe it or not, Sunday was the breaking point. The last 40 mile ride went from a nice recovery ride to being 38 miles of pace line racing. Oh joy!

hmmmmmm.... I still think if it were me, I'd have rested, ate and slept a bit longer before embarking upon another monster training race.
Bet you all were pumped by the time the weekend ended!

Very nice! When / what's your next race?

My experience with "crash training" like this is that if I follow it up with a few days of active recovery I see a noticeable jump in fitness over the next few weeks. It will be interesting to see what kind of benefit you see in your next race.

I almost signed up for that camp, but they wanted to charge me extra for the bodybag at the end.  I could not justify the extra money for the body bag.  Things like this I just think should be included.

I am took Monday and yesterday off. I am starting back at it Today - Wednesday - and we will see how I do. I really think my biking will show the greatest improvement.

My next race is teh Steelhead in Michigan in August, a HIM, so Those 75 and 100 mile rides should make that seem a lot shorter. It was pretty funny that the 40 mile ride on Sunday sounded short. It was like, "Oh! We are only dong 40 today?"

I have gotten a couple PM's saying how ward this sounds and all that. I thought so too. I was amazed that while the prospect of it was daunting, it wasn't as bad as it sonds. You just got up and did the next thing. The difficult thing was really focusing. I tried my nest to focu on where I was, what I was doing, and just the whole physical aspect. I think that is something that we all lose track of in races is that last 10- 20 % of each leg we zone out, and that is the prime time we need to focus on where we are!

Amazing! I need to set up one of those weeks for myself. It would be so much easier doing it with other people!
