I'm curious about your Virtue bottle. Did you add a place to mount it lower?

I think you might be able to mount it on the lowest (may have to drill a hole in the cage) setting on the seat tube and clean up the line just a bit.

Good looking transition

to mount the bottle, i used the bottom braze on for the top of the water bottle. then i added a zefal cage gizmo for the bottom of the bottle (its where you see the black strap around my frame).

it was a lesser-of-two-evils situation. if i pull the bottom of the bottle closer to my down tube, it would bend the bottle cage due to the frame curving down to the bottom bracket. i tried this first with a zip tie, but the bending of the cage also made the bottle less secure (since the zefal gizmo is raised, it makes the cage perfectly flat). the other problem is that when the bottle rotated, it left a gap at the seat tube. the way it's mounted now, its flush at this point.

anyway, i tried lots of scenarios, but this seemed to be the best fit. the bottle did mount pretty cleanly when it was attached to the seat tube, but everything ive read seems to suggest that the bottle on the downtube is the best location. whew, lots to think about when it comes to a water bottle, and believe me, my fiance heckled me to no end when i was trying out all of these mounting options.

I already posted my Tri bike; this is my grocery-getter.

My father bought this bike brand new in 1976. I grew up riding on a child carrier on the back of this thing. Eventually when I got tall enough to reach the pedals (not even the ground, which I attribute to my bike handling skills) I would ride this around the neighborhood.

The bike had been collecting dust in my parents basement for several years so this past winter I pulled it out, tore down the entire bike, cleaned, recabled, and replaced the pedals. It looks pretty nice and is fun to ride. Weighs about twice as much as my tri bike.

Lots of great rocket sleds on this thread. Not sure how this, uh, "multisport" bike will compare, but I use it to test the mounting security of new products. While it's based on a 29er frame, it is not really a mountain bike, as it has 700C wheels, a full road (shimano 105) drivetrain, and a road body position. It took a few tricks to get the components to fit this MTB frame and to get the body position right, but this thing works great on gravel, on bad roads, and on most trails.
