[ stand the word hero nowadays, as it has been dilluted to the point of having NO meaning.

I *love* your sig line.

Truth is that I am not a cold-hearted conservative, but instead a rock-and-roll hippie liberal who only cares about free-speech, free-drugs, free-insurance, and free-love.

I was certain you were going to say, "Damnit Jim, I'm a doctor!"

Yeah...it's funny, but I've never hrad that one before. Huh.

It's funnier when it's FROM a doctor, but I'd imagine you two have shared that joke quite a few times already.

BTW, I can't believe that you forgot we actually scored a goal.  You are obviously a communist sympathizer.   Do you know anyone else who "forgot" we scored a goal in the World Cup?  We want names.

FWIW, Opus, I agree you've got a right to be sensitive on the subject.  I don't think there's anything wrong with a little light-hearted joking about it but it IS hard to tell when that joking crosses a line.  Plus, you never know if other people reading get that it is meant to be jokes.

You're right. I hang myhead in shame. How could I have possibly forgot that magical goal we scored against the world power that is Ghana? That athletic achievement ranks right up there with the time I beat that 11yo girl in my last race.

Stop picking on the French.  Who else would send us a large statue of a lesbian wearing a tunic with some wierd pointed crown on it's head to grace NY harbour?  The French!  Who else would give us flaky puff pastries in the shape of a turd that we can't figure out what to do with so we stuff them with sausage and egg?  The French!  Who else would use the cock as their national symbol?  The French!  And finally, one word says it all....PEUGEOT!

Well said... Now that I know the French are on board with Iran. I have AS WELL stopped picking on them...

Hey....back to the original post that was hijacked by headbutting soccer (ahem). This is something I did NOT know til now.... If Isreal gets into it with Syria (which seems very likely...some are talking about Damascus being hit by the weekend), Iran has a military pacted with Syria...which means Iran has to come to Syria's aid... And who is between Iran and Syria?.. Yeah... uh oh...

Why did we go to war with Iraq again?

Iran is in no position to help Syria.  Neither Turkey nor Saudi Arabia are going to allow them to fly, launch, or march over their countries.  With the US presence in Iraq, that's not an option either.

Yeah I understand that, but Iran is obligated by their military pact...which means they may try.... who's going to take on Iran if they do? That will blow the entire region up..

Okay... here's a question to fire this thread back up again....

Isreal invades the Gaza Strip due to ONE soldier, and is now going into Lebanon because of TWO. Doesn't this seem like collateral damage? I mean just today 6 soldiers were killed today in Leb.

Before anyone says it, I'll say it... "it isn't collateral damage if your families are the ones affect (or something of the like.) While this statement is true on the basis of emotion, you would NEVER NEVER NEVER see the U.S. pull a move like that... Nor any country I can think of...

Looking back, Isreal has ALWAYS had this deep sense of commitment to recovering civilians and/or civilians... Just look at the "prisoner exchanges" that have been talked about in the news... 1 Isreali citizen for 161 Hamas Prisoners? I mean SERIOUSLY! How many of those prisoners have killed people SINCE there release?

Can someone PLEASE tell me what is up with Isreal's POW policy?

phoenixazul - 2006-07-12 12:46 PM And this my friends, is why I am persuing Irish citizenship...gotta love a neutral state, and they have good tea. I just have to learn how to shear a sheep. (PS, they're really ticked off at the US for using Shannon Airport to transport prisoners.)

By the way... what the crap ever happen to the IRA? I haven't heard a squak out of them in almost a decade it seems.

That all being said, I *personally* believe that Northern Ireland should be part of the Republic. That's just me. It seems like the country's roll in UK governance is...well, non existant. The Stormont parliment has collapsed and things are just plain frustrating. I tend to think of NI as the UK equivalent of Puerto Rico.

The Northern Irish have as much of a role in UK governance as any other similar sized population grouping - say, for example, the North West of England - or Scotland - or Wales. Apart from the Welsh occasionally burning down rich English people's holiday houses and a bit of whinging from the Scots when they've had a few lagers they don't kick up a fuss. It would be a bit like Alaskans asking for independence...

Collateral damage has nothing to do with combatants engaged in a fight being killed. Collateral damage is killing 100 people because they are in a building with one guy you are trying to smoke...
