So, what's up with this? I heard this both from a friend who is a coach and also from my LBS. True, the coach raced on USA's team at one time and the LBS may lean toward roadbikes, but what's this about? More hilly? Something to do with my riding?

Any ideas?

I know several people that will be doing this long course tri Silverman in Nevada on a road bike. I've read that because of the slack seat angle for better climbing, better handling for descents, it may be better for road bikes. But since I only have one bike, I will be doing it on a tri bike.  You can also change switch out the rear cassette to a 12-25 or 12-27 for your tri bike to climb better.

the woman who heads the tri team on was just telling me how she only uses her tri bike for sprint and oly distances, maybe HIM, but never for IM distance. thought that was interesting. personally. i'd like to have one of each at this point, but i'll need to sell a kidney first.

So I have been too embarassed to ask this question so far in the few months that  I have been at BT, but since I only have a MTB, I'm going to look silly enough as it is...

BUT... what exactly IS the difference between a road and tri bike?

 Peace,

Brian

c_cic - 2006-07-12 5:34 PM  More hilly?

That's probably what they are talking about. Tri bikes don't climb well, as you're perched too far forward to get a lot of leverage and engage your glutes like you need to do to be efficient at low cadences.

Yeah... I just saw that link in another thread, immediately AFTER I asked this question!  Now I feel really idiotic.
