Subject: A 27 year old Yanuck here
Hello all,
As the subject attempted to convey, I am a Yankee who just became a Canuck recently. I just moved from NJ/NY to Burlington, Ontario this past Spring. Who knew that finding a life partner would take one to another country or laws that can't bring her to the states. ok, enough of politics here.
So why am I here at this site? Over the past couple of years I began an interest in Tri's. I was active in HS with skiing and soccer, but once I went to college I did less and less of sweating. I lost pounds but then stress, depression, and more stress hit and I gained 30 lbs very quickly. I lost some of it for a few months, but it again appeared. For the last three years, i was involved in a long distance realtionship where I would drive to Toronto once a month. On the drive, I would eat the worse stuff out there. I continued eating bad stuff and then stress of my NJ life lead me to hang out more and more in NYC which included much pub fare. The bottom line I hit my all time heaviest weight of 207 this year. I'm only 5'6.
So my plan of action is too loose 50lbs by preparing to do a Tri. If I can do that within a year, my reward is to do a few tris next year and then do the Tri at the Gay Games in Chicago in 2006. Tri has the benefit of doing three things instead of consentrating on one sport which also bored me. Running has always bored me, but I think by having a goal of two years will help me get past the bordom of the run.
So thank you for this site and you will definitly see me around. The stories have inspired me already.
Thanks, TJ

Being French Canadian, I actually say "hein", pronounced like the word "hand" minus the "d" at the end.

Hey Yanuck,

Welcome. I'm new, too, and also a soon-to-be-former-fattie doing my first Oly distance in 3 weeks. Yikes!

Maybe I'll see you in Chicago in 2006. ;-)

Hey Yanuck - welcome...

I'm a 27 year old Canankee (hmm.. yanuck maybe sounds better)... (I'm from Western Canada, came down here for grad school, and love's kept me in Montana) I'm graduating in the next 2 months, and the stress of the past years has not been great for my physical state either. Like you, I have also dealt with serious depression, and I want to lose some weight (15 lbs), but mostly, I want to establish a regular, rigorous exercise routine to help keep on a more even keel. And, I used to be a an elite basketball player, and I can't wait to be able to run circles around some of the younger kids in league.

I'm just getting going this week - my first run was yesterday. I'm doing the couch to 5k program - how about you? What point are you starting from? I hope to do an sprint by my birthday in April, and an oly next summer up in Saskatchewan.

Best of luck in your training... and welcome to Canada ( :-( I miss it more than a little)

yarg.

Welcome Canankee.. hee I like it too. One has to love stress.. NOT!!!! I'm on and off the programs.. unfortunalty I should get back on.. but finally finding a job (YES I FOUND A JOB) can be erased and I can concetrate on training. I'm getting my head back on.. I was a little disppointed last week where I couldn't run a mile at my speed, but it was only one week... thanks.. enjoy Montana.. I'll have a Timmy's double double for you
