Subject: Need quick removal tricks for the wetsuit
I've been racing in the same wetsuite for the past 5 years and I'll be using the same one again this season. But last year I was starting to run into problems getting the suit off, it was just taking too long. I did my first OWS this season and found the same thing - it's like the suit is suctioned on to me. I use body glide on the arms and legs, but this doesn't seem to be helping enough. I'm usually getting the suit off while running for transition, but I don't want to battle with it.

So, what are your tricks/products to get a quick wetsuit removal?

Cut about an inch off the sleeves (leg and arms)

Helped get mine on and off.

Somehow completely missed the other thread asking the same question at the same time.

I don't think I want to cut any of the suit away, otherwise I'm going to be wearing a surfers suit. I'm light, with long arms and legs, so my suit is already hiked up quite high on the forearms to allow good movement in the shoulder.

I step on the one leg (already removed and inside out) in order to yank out my other foot.    I can sometimes even step on part of it to get my first leg out.  Good luck!

My kid is 6'3" and 145 so he needs a small suit, which means really small leg holes for his size 13 foot......his suit comes to his knees after what we cut off...but he steps right out of it.

If you watch the pros, they push the suit down, step on the upper part of the wetsuit leg with their other foot and kick their foot out HARD. I think that's the key. The first few times I tried it I was worried about tearing the neoprene, but the last couple of times, I've tried really kicking hard and my foot just pops right out. Between the suit being wet, my lower leg being well-covered with tri-slide or body glide, and the neoprene being stronger than you think it is, I think you can probably kick harder than you've been doing.

there is no substitute for actually watching someone who is really good at it shed their wetsuit.. it is a learned skill but not a hard one to learn.

I had trouble with removing the wetsuit from my legs despite kicking really hard. After a suggestion from my coach I ended up cutting the legs to about mid calf (something the pros do fairly regularly). Legs pop out super easy now once I'm into T1.

I'd second taking a look at some youtube videos for technique sake just to see if that's part of your troubles.

Running does not cause injury. Poor running form does. Running is more enjoyable, and safer if you know what you’re doing. And yes, even old dogs can learn new tricks.
