I'm feeling a lack of motivation right now. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to get back on the right track. I guess I am hitting the low that I sometimes hear about.

volunteer at a race or some type of event. Seeing all of the motivated athletes should get you fired up. If not, have some ice cream and chill.

This one is pretty funny, I got this from a weight loss discussion.Blackmail yourself. Take a picture of yourself in underwear, the more revealing of flaws the better. Give it to a friend. Tell the friend that after xx days/months etc if you have not lost xx pounds/done xxx to post it on http://www.hotornot.com/Nowyou have the motivation.

Sometimes the best thing to do when you just aren't into training is to walk away from it for a week.  You might just find yourself anxious to get back at it.

Don't run bike or swim for a week or two...don't let yourself, even if you want to. Do something else, go fishing, work on your yard, take a trip...you'll be itchin' to get back on the horse at the end of the "break". I once heard a pro golfer (not sure who) once say that once a year he has his coach take his clubs and lock them up for two to three weeks. We all go through "down" times. Good luck.

I use a dry erase marker and write in huge letters "I DON'T WANT TO SUCK TODAY" across my bathroom mirror. That way every morning I know I can't let the guy in the mirror down.

START USING YOUR TRAINING LOG ON THIS WEBSITE!!!!!!!!!!!!! really, because then we can see where you are coming from, what kind of training you are doing AND it holds you a little more accountable. and sometimes all we need is some accountability. and you can either get that by giving a friend a naked picture of yourself with the promise to lose weight, or you can really get in the groove here and start getting Inspire Me's from fellow BT'ers who know what you're going through. we are here - use us as much as you can.

as for getting you back out the door - what sparked your interest in tri training in the first place? what got you out the door before? where do you do with yourself when you don't have your tri desire? are other things going on in your life that has gotten you in a slump? what does training mean to you? how bad do you want it? how good does it make you feel?

.... oh ya?

well then!! GET BACK OUT THERE!!!!!!!!! (and fill out your dang logs  =) )

I understand where you are coming from. Not only am I a certified personal trainer, but I am a Life Coach. I help people with motivational issues all of the time. I could help you out with a free telephone session if you are interested. It would take about 30 minutes of your time. No committments whatsoever. You can check me out at http://exersyk.blogspot.comor http://www.exersyk.com. Good luck!

Echo these sentiments but I also find that all it take for me to get a bit inspired is to look back a few months, weeks or now a year ago at my progress.  It is easier to stick to the map when you can quantify how far along you are IMO.  Also, helps you to define your goals and check progress.  With no goals and no way of measuring em, it is very easy to drift.  Not saying you arent doing this in some other way, but the resources on this site are very helpful in staying focused (almost too focused sometimes methinks!!    )

My broker just sent me this quote:

" People who are unable to motivate themselves must be content with mediocrity, no matter how impressive their other talents."

Volunteer at a local race.  Then you'll be like, "HEY...I can do that!"
