Veteran 622 Roll Tide!! | Subject: Hip Pain- Bursitis or ITBS? I did not know whether to add on to the other hip pain thread or start a new one. I have just started really enjoying running. I am having some hip pain on the outside of my hip after running. I start to notice it about 2 miles into my run, but actually feel more discomfort (a little pain) for a day or two after the run than during the run. This is only only left side and it is slightly swollen after a run, even when I really take it easy. From my looking around online, I am thinking it is probably bursitis or ITBS. Are these the same thing???? I went to my LRS and the owner did some 'trigger point' on my quad and it did noticeably relieve it. I bought a TP kit, but really have not had the time to learn how to use it YET. My chiropractor suggested it was non supportive shoes during the work week & my possibly my form, but no real solution. SO, I am not sure where to go from here- Is there a difference between bursitis & ITBS??? Is there a difference in how they are treated? Should I try and address it with the trigger point & keep running (which is what the LRS guy who is a very experienced/knowledgeable runner suggested)??? or do I need to make an appointment with an MD and ask for PT? I would rather not take a shot or any prescription drugs for this.... also, I am feeling no pain in my knee. Edited by Meljoypip 2013-06-07 11:32 AM |

In the meantime, while waiting, it doesn't hurt to do IT Band (and other) Stretches and use a foam roller all over the area (IT Band, glutes, TFL, etc.). If running makes it feel worse I would back off at least for a little while. |
