Tybee Island, Georgia
United States
Set Up Events
79F / 26C
Overcast
Total Time = 1h 18m 35s
Overall Rank = 67/170men
Age Group = M 35-39
Age Group Rank = 12/24
Pre-race routine:

I got out a little later than I wanted and was greeted with a pretty long signup line. It went pretty quickly, but I will get there earlier next time. Got my transition set up at the last minute and headed to the water.
Event warmup:

Running around like my hair is on fire trying to get my bike and transition setup.
Swim
  • 17m 59s
  • 750 meters
  • 02m 24s / 100 meters
Comments:

Swim was tough again this year and not wetsuit legal. I never felt bad, except when I ate a wave mid breath, but I need to get faster swimming. My sighting is usually terrible, but I only got off course once.
What would you do differently?:

Swim more.
Transition 1
  • 00m 46s
Comments:

Fastest transition yet for me, also first time jumping on the bike. I had a little trouble getting my feet in the shoes, but everything worked great considering it was my first time.
What would you do differently?:

Unvelcro my shoes before I jump on.
Bike
  • 35m 19s
  • 20 kms
  • 33.72 km/hr
Comments:

I passed quite a few guys and felt great. This was my first race on a carbon tri bike. Super fun.
Transition 2
  • 00m 45s
Comments:

Could have been a little faster. Also my first time jumping off the bike. I lost a bike shoe coming in somehow.
What would you do differently?:

Get my belt on faster.
Run
  • 23m 48s
  • 5 kms
  • 04m 41s  min/km
Comments:

I usually run much better, but for some reason I just couldn't go. I haven't been able to run as much as I normally do in the 2 weeks leading up to this event, so maybe that had something to do with it. My legs felt heavy and slow.
What would you do differently?:

Run more
Post race
Warm down:

Got a coke and some oranges. Talked to a few people, and met some new guys. Packed up my stuff and headed back home

What limited your ability to perform faster:

Lack of training and late arrival

Event comments:

I love this race, I'll be back next year.

The challenge? The accomplishment? I want to do this because it is an opportunity to live life. The event is an indoor sprint triathlon. I get to experience the challenge on a safer scale.

This plan is designed to make you go faster. 3 workouts per week in each sport, 2 days of strength training and core work. The maximum volume is around 10 hours toward the end of the 12 weeks.

I was passing others who were saying, "Good job, 587" (that was my race number). People were cheering me on. These were the nicest people I have ever been around!

If you haven’t done any bricks yet, this isn’t the time to start piling them on, but here are some examples you could do in the lead up to your race.

Since your “A” race is your marathon, which you stated in your question, this should be your main focus. I encourage you to taper a bit for the sprint distance triathlon.

Since I didn't have much time and since it's a super sprint, am I OK just go to at the training relatively hard through Thursday or even Friday?
