Subject: Before & After - Locks of Love

So when Janelle shaved her head for Locks of love I decided I would do the same.  Not shave my head, but cut it short to donate to Locks of Love.  It was hard - I love my long hair, but that didn't matter when I remembered wy I was doing this.  So - here are my before and after photos - 10 inches of hair gone.  I'm not sure if I love it.  My husband says he likes it but he has to say that.  Today's our 7th anniversary and I don't think he would be too happy if he told me he dind't like it.

Here's what I have learned from all these close up pictures -  I have way more wrinkles than I ever thought I had.  I guess it's good I live in Boca so I can probably just run to Wal Mart to get some Botox.

I also learned it's hard to swim with hair this short - every time I came up for air my hair would get stuck in my mouth.  I never had to worry about it with long hair because it was always in a ponytail.

Here's the link to my album...

In all honesty, I think it makes you look younger, too.
Very long hair can actually draw your face down and make you look older. The shorter hair flatters your face. I like it! And you did a good deed!
Just wear a swim cap from now on.

BTW, I wore my hair long until I turned 40 and my beautician talked me into cutting it shorter (not short, just shorter). I was amazed at how many comments I got about "how much younger you look!" I was sold! My beautician was right.

I think your short hair looks great!  What you did was really cool.  Janelle is a good friend of mine and I was lucky enough to get to take a swipe at her head when she shaved it.  You two a very brave to do what you did, and both of you look beautiful after also.  I have another friend who's little girl has Alopecia (not sure I spelled it right)  She lost all of her hair, including her lashes and eyebrows.  She just got her wig that was made from hair donated by Locks of love.  That wig has meant so much to that family and the little girl.  You are a hero, I know your daughters and husband must be very proud.

What you did was a wonderful thing.  I spend lots of time in the chemo ward and I see so many kids who need the wigs and it makes them feel so much better.

Happy Anniversary

Cheers

You are such a sweetheart!  What a kind and brave thing you've done!  And I think the cut looks fanatastic!  I may have to treat you to ice cream just so I can see it in person!!!  Smile

Good on ya!  And so good that your girls were a part of it.  They got to see Mommy doing something hard for the benefit of a stranger in need.

Bravo!

I think you look great with the shorter hair!  I agree with everyone else - you look younger that way.  It's so great that you donated your hair and that your girls were with you.  You are setting a wonderful example for them.

Great pictures! YOu look fab w/ the short hair. I've kinda been thinking about doing this too.... I have super long hair and now that I've moved to NC, it's getting pretty hot to have such long thick hair. Seeing your pics is another little nudge towards chopping it off!

Your husband was likely being honest, you look great. You will know forever that you did a great thing to help someone else who needed the hair more. Sweet!

Thank you everyone!  Autumn, it is hard to let your hair grow that long especially if you're not used to it.  I have always had long hair anyway, but ti did start to feel "too long" by the end.  I originally wanted to let it grow long enough so that when I cut the 10 inches my hair would still be shoulder length, but I strated to go crazy with hair that long and decided to cut it early.  Whenever you feel like you want to cut it just go to the Locks of Love website and look at the picture gallery.  Also - tell your girls you're doing it - that gives you accountability becuase little girls never forget anything!

I had the same problem growing mine.  When your hair gets really long it gets really hard to maintain it.  Mine was tangled all the time and very hard to get the tangles out.  Growing your hair out that long can get frustrating and I wanted to cut mine so many times before I had enough to donate.  I often needed some encouragement (sounds weird but true) to continue growing it so I could donate it.  When you get frustrated just think of how much you'll be helping someone who can't grow hair and that will keep you encouraged to do it.  And visiting the LOL website often is encouraging too.

Oh- I forgot ot mention this.  I was running on the dreadmill at the gym last week and saw a commercial.  It was a little girl cutting all the hair off her baby dolls.  She put all the doll hair in a box and gave it to an older lady, who obviously was bald.  The old lady started crying.  The commercial was for another organization similiar to LOL- I can't remember the name of the organization right now.  Anyhow, it was an awesome reminder for me, especially since I'm getting impatient for my hair to grow back.  It's such a great cause and your hair is going to help and change the lives of so many people- keep growing it Autumn!  And just think how great it will feel to get it cut off knowing it's going to make someone very happy

Way to go! My hair is usually medium-short, not quite long enough for a ponytail... so for working out I go the pigtails route. Okay so then I'm 36 and look 12, but it keeps all the little bits out of my face. Worth a try.
