Sunny
Total Time = 1h 41m 17s
Overall Rank = 122/166
Age Group = 46-49
Age Group Rank = 7/8
Pre-race routine:

light breakfast
set-up transition spot
energy bar 45 minutes before race start
Event warmup:

walk
Swim
  • 31m 17s
  • 766 yards
  • 04m 05s / 100 yards
Comments:

this part of the event sucked. the first 100 m was ok and then I started to suck in water with each head roll and started to breath too fast; the wetsuit felt like it was constricting my chest and I had to unzip it (a daunting task in the water) Panic was not far off. Freestyle was out of the question. I finished the course with a pseudo side stroke, back stroke and elementary backstroke.
What would you do differently?:

1) stop and catch breath then proceed
2) forget the wetsuit
3) train more for the swim
4) join a masters swim class
Transition 1
  • 02m 9s
Comments:

wetsuit hung up on left foot secondary to timing chip under the suit
What would you do differently?:

place timing chip on outside of suit
Bike
  • 34m 2s
  • 11.18 miles
  • 19.71 mile/hr
Comments:

My strongest event; once I got out on the course, no one passed me except one individual on a tri bike with a disk rear wheel
What would you do differently?:

ride harder and drink more water
Transition 2
  • 02m 12s
Comments:

I dismounted bike with shoes on feet and ran to the rack with shoes on; my speed lace on right shoe broke and I had to tie it. I fumbled with my sun glasses and I ran with a gatorade bottle
What would you do differently?:

1) take feet out of shoes before dismounting
2) make sure speed lace is longer to allow for slack
Run
  • 31m 39s
  • 3.1 miles
  • 10m 13s  min/mile
Comments:

started a little too slow but legs felt tired; definitely below my training pace; felt stronger at the half way turn; didn't like the way the gatorade bottle felt in my hand; ?disrupted the arm rhythym. did not want to litter
What would you do differently?:

1) train for longer distances
2) increase speed
3) push a little harder
4) keep hands empty of objects
Post race
Warm down:

walked around and finished the gatorade

What limited your ability to perform faster:

the swim
