Thanks For the swim and the bike I did what I could. For the run I was running way faster than I wanted to and started walking .05, running .45 X 2 every mile to slow myself down (I had the 4 fields I wanted in the Garmin and had to figure out how to walk on miles instead of minutes), and the last 10 miles I had 3 hours so I figured what the heck I can do 18 minute miles for 10 miles.

Chicken broth, bananas, and coke. They are the reason I am an Ironman. I don't sweat hardly anything at all but I get de-salted easily. At mile 16 I felt like I was gonna pass out and dizzy (and had been doing Perform and Coke). I was walking next to the grass in case I fainted I would land soft. I asked a few people what to do if I felt like I was gonna pass out and they said chicken broth and coke. I did those two every chance I got and they did help a lot. My quads were hurting a bit and bananas helped. I was afraid my body wouldn't hold up. I saw a man cramp up HALF A MILE away from a 100-mile finish. I will never forget that. He was fit and strong and a good runner. When the body seizes, the body seizes. I also didn't want to get blisters. I played the run conservatively and knew I had to finish 16 mins before midnight so I was constantly re-calculating. Better a 16:59:59 Ironman than no Ironman at all. So it was a calculated walk for the last 10 miles.

DEB! Completely awesome!  In the emotional ride that can follow a big race like this I hope you ride the wave and stay high on this accomplishment.

And then come back and tell us what's next :)

Congratulations Ironman.

What if we applied the lesson of encouragement beyond race day? The right word at the right time can work wonders.

The day of the triathlon was one of the best days of my life. I felt strong and healthy. Lots of friends and family came to cheer me on. The support was overwhelming.
