I didn't make it either. I think those of us who were in the first round are automatically included in the second-round lottery. I hope this is true. I really want to do this one.

Best of Luck to all those who got in! We expect a full race report to keep us stoked for 2016. 2016 seems so far away. Sigh....

I think I'm going to die....first time entering the lottery and I got in! So nervous yet excited at the same time. Booked a room and looking at bike transport now.

Congrats, tri bike transport is currently having a sale, for like two more days.   I'd jump on that if you need xport

Arrggh!

Work has blocked the lottery results page and my phone will not display it...
Do you get an email if you got in or not (I haven't received anything)?

Thanks - would you mind looking for a "John" (my legal name) from Albuquerque?

Anyone else having problems getting to the personal info page by clicking their name from the lottery results page?

Everyone thinks the swim is the hard part of this race, when it's probably the easiest part, and I am no fish. The hills are killer. 1500' of climbing for the bike and 600' for the run. Get started on hill training now.

I have read folks suggesting staying near Fisherman's Wharf for convenience? Any other recommendations for lodging? Looks like those prices start at $250/night and go up? I might try to stay somewhere cheaper/closer to Marina Green.

I'll also be renting a bike- perhaps from Sports Basement, although they have race weekend blacked out in their online reservation system.

Everything in that area is expensive.  You can get the Best Western for something like $225 at the AAA rate - that's my current plan.

Word.

You definitely want to be stronger than quick for this race.  I found the bike to be absolutely killer in sections, but the run wasn't really too bad (though, the Sand Ladder put the appropriate level of hurt on me).  The swim was a challenge, but it was also just a bit of spectating, too... taking moments to take in where I was at and what I was doing.  The current and chop still made for some interesting swimming, but the cold really wasn't all that bad.

p.s.  Congratulations, and Good Luck to everyone that got in (and best wishes to those hoping for a Round 2 slot!)

I heard the swim had 200' of climbing too..

Thanks for the heads up... Around here(Albuquerque), it's harder to find a training route without hills than it is with hills. So, as long as I don't avoid hills intentionally, I should be OK. The sand ladder may be a different story...

LOL, everything is hard in this race.

My advice for the swim - get some OW swims in, and don't go with aoll your friends in the morning when it's glassy calm.  Wait until the afternoon and the wind picks up.  Get practice in choppy water, worst case scenario you won't need it, but you'll be glad to have the experience if you do.

And get LOTS of practice breathing to your left in that choppy water if you don't do so already.... wind directions + swim direction + chop = water in your face/mouth if you breathe to your right.

In addition to writing your race number on each upper arm, they also wrote your age on your calf. This allowed me to see who was passing me by in the bike section of this race.

The boat was being tossed around. Someone noted that there were whitecaps on the waves. Another guy said, “This is going to be challenging.” I began to wonder what he meant by 'challenging'.

I signed up for a Sprint in July, an Olympic distance in September, and the Alcatraz tri in October. If I'm going to do it, I'm going to do it all the way.
