Hey, where in WI is there a sprint in Sept? Or are you traveling, looking to do my first somewhere around there too and would travel to the land of beer and cheese to do it.

Thanks!

I grew up in milwaukee and wauwatosa, went to and just finished school in La Crosse and now I am living at home for a bit (need to save money) north of West Bend in the Kettle Moraine State Forest.

Hi Balke....I'm another newbie from wisconsin. There is also a race in Lake Geneva on Sept 11, with all distances (I'm training for the 1/2 IM, pray for me...) I hear it's very hilly. I want to go check it out next week if I can find someone to ride the bike course with me. CindyK

Lake Geneva has their Extreme Triathlon series on September 11 this year.

Really nice race, and Lake Geneva is beautiful!
Welcome!

Ohhhh! It is hilly!!! I did the sprint last year... in the rain... it was chaos, people falling all over the place, but I have to say it was FUN. The **RUN** is either straight up hill or straight down hill. But it makes things interesting. You will be well served if you check out the course ahead of time... I didn't, and I wish I would have!

Good Luck! Wish I was racing there that weekend too... My husband has a conflict, so I did my Lake Geneva race earlier this month @ Big Foot.

Have Fun.

I'm actually more afraid of the hills on the bike course. I started running distances in Puerto Rico and there were lots and lots of hills because we were very near the rain forest. I can run up and down them but biking drains me...wierd, I guess.

hey there, first time post for me

just an fyi on the lake geneva triathlon. i did it last year and it was gorgeous, but man the hills were killer! everything in illinois is so flat i wasn't ready for it when i got there. so i'd suggest finding a big hill and do some serious training

Hi, and welcome to the site! Glad to have you, and I'm doubly glad 'cuz now I can pick your brain.

Did you do the 1/2 IM at LG? If so, was the entire bike course bad? I spoke with a guy out there who said he's done the Oly 15 times, and that the Oly bike course isn't so bad, with about 20 miles of flats. He said even the run gets better as you get away from the in and out of Fontana Beach. HOWEVER...I get the impression that the guy lived in Lake Geneva, in which case he's probably been training on those hills all along.

On a lighter note, I'm pretty comfortable running up and down hills and replaced some run workouts with hill repeats just to be safe. And lots of hill biking. Hills like the ones in LG aren't easy to come by around here but they can be found.

Like I said tho the bike course concerns me...what are your thoughts?

I did the olympic distance at lake geneva, and no not all of the bike course was hills, but im sure your assumption about the guy is right and prolly lived there quite some time cuz thats teh hilliest place i know of my legs were completely gased up w/lactic acid and it took a while to shake it out for the run

Take what i say with a grain of salt though too, cuz swimming is my event and i dread teh bike so it might be kind of a mental thing. over a year since i was there and now i tell it like i was goin up mountains! i was just really cuaght un prepared but it sounds like youve planned ahead a lil bit (not my strong suit either! )

anyway, i wish u good luck with the 1/2 er, too much bike for me! i;m still undecided about teh oly for this year, as the exercise ive been getting is the 12 oz kind ;-) we'll see if i can get in shape maybe see ya there!
