My 5 yr old son says Fido is a "great boy puppy name"....

Well, considering "Fido" is a derivative of the Latin word "fidelis" meaning faithful, I would agree with your son.

Sorry, all those Latin classes coming back to haunt me. I won't even get into the discussion about pronunciation of "arbor vitae" I had with my wife.

I said Runner.      Always have a distinct sounding name when you call him.  Something that he won't be confused about..

Never name a dog puppy.  Everyone says that....

BTW- is there a reason why they have different colored collars or whatever those things are around their necks?  Just curious if they mean anything.  Guess it probably helps to tell them apart.

They are all wearing different colours so the breeder can tell them apart. Otherwise, they are all far too similar looking to know which puppy is which. Especially when they are so little and their size and personalities change so quickly!

I totally think Kona, even though I can't see it on the list.

I would also vote for Alibi... then you will always have an alibi for future excuse making... call him Aly for short.

You might want to wait and see if your pup is a waterdog.  Labs are supposed to love water, but unfortunately mine does not.  I cannot get her to swim for the life of me.  But she will walk aroudn and sniff and point like no other.  I've been told be several dog breeders that some labs are "field dogs" and others are "water dogs".  Apparently mine is a field dog

You could always wait and see if your dog is a water dog, and if so you could always name him after a swimmer or something.

Labs are soo much fun- as long as you give them LOTS of attention and exercise.  You are going to love being a lab owner after you get past the naughty puppy age!

Here's a website with some dog names:

We named our puppy before we got her and it stuck after we got her. Behold, Kaya, after and before (ps, I'm still stuck on Floyd and it really has nothing to do with TdF):

I'm with you on that one alhtough I like it because it has something to do with TDF.  Altough you could always call him "Flandis" which is even catchier than Floyd.

I am also a lab owner and lover.  My black lab just turned 4.  Her name is Kiera.  Her partner in crime, my yellow lab, is Tannah, who is about 2.

They are truly wonderful dogs if you take the time to properly train them.  If they get bored, they will chew everything you have and dig holes in your grass.  Run him lots, take him to the lake, teach him to fetch and he will love you forever.  One thing to consider is you might think about getting him a playmate (another dog).  I don't know what your situation is like but our dogs play all day and really enjoy each other's company.  Single dogs get very lonely when you aren't around (face it, you can't be home all the time).  If you had another dog, you would be surprised at how much happier they are when they don't have to spend all day in the backyard alone.

As for the names....I suggest Boone or Jaeger (as in Jaegermeister).

If you are talking about Emmitt Smith I think you spelled the name wrong.  Or possibly since I can not count, I can not spell either.  I am also partial to the name Buckeye.  Buckeyes are the heart of it all!!

One word  of advice- don't lete them get on your furniture or sleep with you.  It's cute when they're little but not so cute when they get bigger.  Luckily my lab wasn't allowed on furniture with her previous owner.  She's pretty good about not getting on it when I'm home, but when I'm gone she does.  She's so sneaky.

Also, obedience classes with a qualified trainer will do wonders if you spend time with the dog working on the commands.  It's usually not the dog who's bad, it's the owners who fail to spend time with the dog and consistenly enforce training.  If you set boundaries from the beginning and are consistent with them the dog won't be confused.  You definitely have to let them know you're in charge or else they'll control you.

This is so exciting- another new lab owner!

We named out yellow lab "Nela," which actually has a meaning -- it's Japanese for "chives."

And our Aussie is named "Foster." Or as I call him ... "FOSTA! AUSTRALIAN FO' BEYA!"

Not meant to be offensive, but I saw "Clerks II" yesterday, and that was a running joke ("I'm takin' it back!".

My Aussie is named Sydney. My wife named her, and had a name picked before the dog, so it's kinda like fate or something.

That is extremely sound advice.   I was/still am one of those "qualified trainers" and 99% of all the problems I'd have to help people through with their dogs was due to the people not knowing or caring to set the right rules from the beginning and then follow them consistently.  Teach them right the first time and you won't have to worry about breaking bad habbits, and not matter what you think, he didn't pee on that rug just to spite you.

Please don't name that gorgeous little puppy "Floyd."  Its a terrific name for an awesome cyclist...a horrible name for a cute little puppy-soon to be wonderful dog and running partner.  Its dog abuse.

He kinda looks like a mole with his eyes closed. Only kidding! Anyway I have to say lab puppies are by far the cutest puppies. It was sad the day our puppy grew up and we got the new Aussie puppy. Everybody said "Oh look it's Nela and the CUTE PUPPY!!!"

I've always thought that I'd love to name a dog Stan or Phil or Steve or Murray or something completely human and normal.  I'm tired of all the dogs named Belle,  Muffin, Lady and Thor and crap like that (no offense to owners of dogs named thusly).  'Course I named my dog Newman after Seinfeld so what does that say about me...
