New to the forum/triathlons. From the Washington, DC area and am considering an olympic triathlon in late Sept. I'm looking for a decent road bike that won't break the bank. Any suggestions?

I'm not much on road bike advice so I'll leave that to those more knowledgeable, but welcome to the site!

Any specific bike is hard to recommend, not knowing how much is "not breaking the bank". A good starter bikes like the Cervelo One (1300AMD), the Felt S32 (1100 to 1200), or the Quintana Roo Kilo (1400 or so). However, these are tri specific bikes and you might want a road bike if you do not already have one for training.

I'm looking to spend around a grand give or take a couple hundred. I am VERY new to this so can you explain the difference between tri specific and road?

I'm going to leave your last question for someone else.....all I know is a tri bike is stiffer, but faster.

Anyway, welcome!  Good luck in your bike decision and your tri!
