I'm a 41 year old mother of 2, hopefully not too old to take up this sport! I live in a western suburb of Milwaukee WI. I needed extra motivation to get back into shape and thought this would be a great goal. I figure I'm on the two year plan, using the first year to get back into shape and the second to train for my first mini triathalon. I'm looking forward to meeting new people with similar healthy intrests!

Welcome!

I believe that you are never too old. An 81 year old finished the Buffalo Springs Lake Half Ironman a few weeks ago!

You can do it!

Definitely NOT too old.  The older we are, the better our endurance (supposedly).  Welcome and good luck!  I'll bet, like Ron said, that you won't be able to wait!

Go for it. I'm a 39 year old [40 next month and looking forward to it] mother of 3. I realised a couple of years ago that I just wasn't where I wanted to be and that I needed to make some changes [for the better]. Got slowly back into pool swimming, did a few open water swims [which I just love] and now I'm contemplating a couple of tri's this summer [and more open water swims of course!]. I've never run or biked in my life before but I'm enjoying it and slowly but surely discovering that I can do it. It's never too late to live your dreams and be the person you want to be. Good luck and welcome.

Greetings Pam and welcome to the site!!!

You're definately not old and you will want to do a tri next year for sure, if not sooner!! I started tri training in Feb of this year and will do 3 sprints (the very first next weekend, ya hoo!!) before the year is out, plus 2-5ks, and 2-10ks. At first I chose a tri for August and then by March, decided I needed to do one even sooner. The closest one in June was sold out, so I found one for July and signed up. I have lost 70 lbs of fat (20 more to go) and gone from being a non-swimmer/biker to a triathlete-in training. I do love to run and it is by far my best event.
Oh ya, and I'm a 42 year old mother of a 5 year old!!!! Had my mid-life crises at the end of last year, and needed to make some changes. Instead of anti-depressants I started running and have never looked back. You will love this site, these people are the best!!!!

Good luck with your training, you can and will do it!!! Choose your event and start training towards it!!!

Welcome Pam. You are definitely not too old. And you are doing the smart thing of giving yourself time to get back into better shape. You may not be able to wait that long to enter your first tri, but you need not have too high expectations for your times. That way you can get stronger and build your endurance base without overtraining or getting injured. You can still do all that AND enter a race sooner that two years.

Nice to have you here.
