Bite sized snickers bars kept in the freezer.  If I just couldn't do without some kind of sweet, I would get one out and slowly eat it.  Since it is frozen, it takes a little longer to eat.  By the time I finished, I would be satisfied.

A fellow BTer shared a Black Bean brownie receipe that I make a lot...it is made with black beans no flour or sugar...I used upscale yummy cocoa powder...they are like 46 calories each...they are wicked good! I add mint extract to make them my favorite flavor...mint chocolate.

My kids even eat them.

I also get 40 cal. fudgles that are sugar free.

Ok, I've got a fool proof plan to get rid of your sweet tooth but I wouldn't wish it on my worst enemy. In june I had surgery on my tongue to take out a potentially cancerous growth. In the process of letting that heal I realized that in with the section of the tongue that was cut out so was my taste center for sweets. I can still taste the chocolate but it's not the same. I don't eat chocolate anymore. I've lost almost ten pounds since the surgery. The growth was benign by the way. Just go with the whole will power thing, surgery sucks!!! Chris

Losing the sweet spot on your tongue would be a tough, but very effective, manner to get off sweets.

I just posted this in my blog a few days ago:

From wikihow

Dark chocolate is also an excellent energy source because it releases slowly into the bloodstream and does not elevate insulin levels. (Indeed, dark chocolate has a GI rating of a mere 22.) As a result, the sustained energy it provides is ideal for endurance activities and even weight training routines.

in the winter, there's nothing like a cup of hot chocolate.  kills the craving, without being an entire 1lb bag of M&Ms....

I didn't start out with the intention of weight loss but found as I trained I was feeling better and toning up nicely. So I decided to do the diet makeover, dropped all sugar and dairy, eat alot more whole foods, (raw, whole grain etc). Now i was a chocolateaholic before so the change was a bit tough I do two things 1 occassionaly have a chocolate chip cookie ( only homemade if I'm going to digress it better be good) and like the previous poster I use chocolate and fudge power bars they satisfy the chocolate craving and are better for you. I have also found with the workout schedule that I am eating more and more food and losing weight still so I indulge in an occassional sweet but not like I used to. anything in moderation is OK. I have found the urges for chocolate have diminished ... in some ways it is like coffee(gave that up too) etc you do get addicted to the sugar / caffeine high and need to keep feeding it. Once your off for a while your body rebalances, that won't help if your craving is a psycological one and you are eating chocolate for other reLaughingasons.... you need to do a bit of soul searching and try and figure out why you crave chocolate.

I would go for dark chocolate because it gives you the most chocolate taste. I have tried a couple of brands of dark chocolates and I find Lindt's 70% cocoa to be the best:

Now, a piece or two as a daily treat wouldn't hurt, would it?

Don't try the 85% cocoa though. It's barely edible.

I have to second the Lindt 70% dark chocolate... I love this stuff! It is by far my favorite chocolate. I don't usually get chocolate cravings, but this sure sounds good now! Thanks a lot! I got the bag of individually wrapped squares and keep them in the fridge- so good!

The other chocolatey thing I'm into lately is instant chocolate jello pudding. I started making it to use up extra milk, but it's good on its own merits! (Plus you get calcium too)

I have the same problem.  I loved candy bars, but trying to lose weight, put on more muscle, etc did not mix well with eating candy bars.  However I found a perfect alternative for me.  labrada Nutrition makes some incredible bars that are like eating candy.  THe taste is literally that good.  Specifically the Lean Body bars are awesome.  Taste great and good for you.  They are a nice meal replacement, or a great pre or post workout snack.  I also enjoy the orange detour bars, but if you get one that is old the peanuts can get soggy.  Yuck.

Three things I do for chocolate cravings:

Nestle FF Hot cocoa - 25 cals.
I make my own trail mix with chex cereal, nuts, & raisins and add chocolate chips
(I usually add 10-15) (2 cals each)
Snickers Marathon bar - (Only after a workout! Man, these suckers are good!) 220 cals.

Cutting it out totally for me doesn't work.  I can go only so long, then I binge, so I'm better off just to eat a little and get it out of my system!

I buy sugarless chocolate - Maltee - Landies - Asher - Estee etcetera.

Just watch how much you eat they can have a laxative effect.

Okay, I'm fairly certain I'm not the only person on this forum with this particular problem.

I LOVE CHOCOLATE. Love, love, love it.

However, chocolate and weight loss/training don't exactly go together. So, what does everyone do to satisfy, or even diminish those cravings? I haven't been successful so far in finding anything......

What are your tricks of the trade?

i get my daily fix with my post workout snack: CLiff Builder Bar (chocolate covered) mmmmmmmmmm

Dove Dark Chocolate Minitures!!!!! My favorite reasonable dark chocolate. I try to limit myself to 2-3 of them per day. Usually I can. Other chocolates like the hand made non-pariels from the sea shore send me over the edge.

I saw the M&M Darks in the store. I have to stick to the individual serve bags, because the bigger bags totally do me in. When they did the Dark Vader Star Wars ones few years ago I turn to the Drak side, and eat way too many.

Stick to small portions.
