Okay, I'm fairly certain I'm not the only person on this forum with this particular problem.

I LOVE CHOCOLATE. Love, love, love it.

However, chocolate and weight loss/training don't exactly go together. So, what does everyone do to satisfy, or even diminish those cravings? I haven't been successful so far in finding anything......

What are your tricks of the trade?

Good luck.

Dark chocolate does it for me...specifically dark chocolate M&M's. They used to only be available around Halloween, but it appears M&M/Mars is making them more readily available.

http://us.mms.com/us/about/products/dark/

Hmmm...I need to go shopping now and find these things. I bought a couple of big bags of them at Halloween and would measure out an ounce of them, count them as I would any other food, and enjoy them during the day. Those two bags lasted a long time that way. It may not seem like much, but a few at a time is usually all it takes to knock the edge off that chocolate craving for me. I think because they are less sweet than regular milk chocolate, they don't leave me craving more.

It helps too that there are supposedly certain health benefits gained by choosing dark chocolate over milk chocolate, like lower blood pressure and additional antioxidants.

See...chocolate is health food!

Low fat hot chocolate (1g fat) - although aren't you guys in the middle of summer and suffering the heat? It comes in sachets here that you can just add hot water to.

Alternatively low fat chocolate milk might do? That way you get calcium & protein too.

I am a firm believer in dieting through counting calories and portion control (at least it worked for me).  During my weight loss phase and even now during weight maintenance, I never denied myself what I like.  I would just eat less.  One small chocolate candy has around 70 calories.  One is all I need (notice I did not say want, LOL).  I ate chocolate almost everyday of my weight loss plan last year.  I found that self control was RELATIVELY easy when I lost my weight because I had a plan, a goal and just put my mind to it.

How about chocolate flavored recovery drinks or bars.  I have a PowerBar Protein Plus bar after hard workouts.  They help with recovery and satisfy my need for chocolate.

Otherwise dark chocolate is better for you than milk chocolate.  It's even supposed to help maintain a healthy heart or something (when used in moderation).

Dark chocolate does it for me, too. And I mean DARK. 70% or greater, bitter dark chocolate. I've found some great stuff at Trader Joe's, and they really help with the chocolate craving without the extra sugar and milk that I don't want.

ha ha ha! I thought I was the only one eating chocolate rice cakes and peanut butter. Don't deny yourself the chocolate or you will blow it later. Have a small piece and COUNT your calories. You may find that 200 calories spent will save you 5 or 6 hundred later on....

I agree....don't try to squelch the craving entirely, only to cave later and then eat way more than you would have originally.  Just find a healthier alternative than chocolate bars to get your fix.

I love to make chocolate pudding from tofu (silken tofu, maple syrup, cocoa powder, and vanilla whizzed together in a food processor) and spoon it over a big bowl of fresh fruit.  It's SO good, especially with strawberries or bananas.  And I end up eating more fruit and less chocolate, but still curing the chocolate craving.  I wish I had some now, actually...

I buy the tiny snack size bag of mixed chocolate or Hershey's kisses. You just have to have the willpower to ONLY take one or two!

Dark chocolate Lindor Truffles, or milk chocolate if I can't get dark.  The coffee shop I frequent sells them individually like most places do...so when I get my (almost) daily coffee I buy one.  If I only have one I can only eat one!  Altho that's usually enough.  I think they have 60 cals each, maybe 70.

Easiest thing for me is to just not even buy it, then there is no temptation and I LOOOOVE chocolate too.

Although I do buy double fudge zone bars when on sale, dont eat them everyday maybe once a week when I have a hard workout in the next couple hours. I find I have a better workout if I eat before and not after for recovery. I do of course still have regular meals but eat a little extra before a workout.

If you have to buy chocolate, dark chocolate chips work well, they are small chunks and have just a few calories, also lots of sugar free chocolate and you can make sure you dont eat too much because its also a laxative so eating too much can be yucky!

Sugar free fudgecicle!! I Love them.

That's my trick too. I love 'em because they take awhile to eat so I can savor.

Last night I had some organic, low-fat chocolate yogurt. It was kind of like eating chocolate pudding but I was getting the good stuff of yogurt too - made it feel like it was nutritious, rather than a treat. Granted, the cals were a bit higher than grabbing a chocolate kiss or a fudgecicle, but I viewed it as a substantial snack. NUMMY.

dark chocolate actually has some properties that are good for you. so find a dark chocolate (pure cocoa no added milk or sugar) and enjoy a little piece. my favorite is green and blacks 70% dark. it's so expensive you'll want to eat it slow!

>70% dark chocolate!!! I eat it everyday. It's considered a superfood because of the antioxidants it contains. Seriously. Also, compare the nutrition labels between milk chocolate and >70% dark chocolate. Dark chocolate has way less fat and sugar. Just eat 0.5 to 1 serving per day and you will not feel guilty.

Frozen Nestle Tollhouse Semi-Sweet Chocolate Chip Morsels. A small handful is only about 100 cal. Real choc. Real sugar. Few cals. The trick is to eat them one by one (morsels not handfuls). Good luck and enjoy.
