Now the government has gone too far. Panda cam with that adorable baby panda has been taken offline.

And the #1 News Show in DC covered it tonight. It felt wrong because only Ron Burgundy should cover such riveting news.

You know, all kidding aside.  It does make me scratch my head when things like this happen... I mean its a freaking web cam. It takes exactly 0 resources to keep this thing up and running. They actually had someone take action to turn the thing off??? Makes no sense.

its kind of like the war memorials being closed...while there are people doing tours, they aren't required...why barricade the WW2 memorial to stop people from walking around...

Because it takes park rangers to monitor the monuments and they cannot report to work.

yeah, in the 4 years i've lived in DC and the numerous times I have been to the war memorials, I can count on one hand the times I have actually seen park rangers there...

It's the oldest tactic in the grow government playbook, so much so that it even has its own wikipedia entry:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Washington_Monument_Syndrome

It's also the biggest, most visible sign we have that those in charge of our federal government have gotten out of control. I don't know why more people don't see it.

They were probably trying to use the spare CPU cycles of the panda cam to keep the ACA website up and running.

Or like our School Superintendent saying that a budget cut will require the loss of sports and teachers, but his own salary will go up and he won't lose any admin.

Don’t forget this is an incredibly big year for sport with the Olympics back in Athens where the modern Olympics started, and especially triathlon to make its second appearance.
