Subject: Hi there
Hi, I am relatively new to tri's. I have one full season under my belt. This year I have finished my first half Ironman (Ralph's). I wasn't very fast but I didn't stop smiling the whole time. I had a group of friends here in San Diego that all trained for our first half together. We all had plans of doing an Ironman in 2006. One of my friends signed up for Ironman Florida this year so that pushed our plans up a year. Now a few of us are doing IM Arizona in April 2005.
I was really scared because I haven't done a marathon before and am not a great runner.
All the Ironman forums are filled with people who have done millions of IM's before, which in some repects doesn't help me much.
I felt a lot better reading here that there are other tri newbies like Tiger Phil who are in the same boat.
I think this forum is great!
Thanks for having me
Tom

Welcome aboard!

If you've got a 1/2 IM under your belt, you're a step up on me. I've only got one sprint so far. :D ( Plans for a 1/2 IM by end of next summer though! ).

Thanks Chris,
I don't know if I'm the person who should be giving out Tri advice, but what I found that really helps is finding a group of people to train with. Meeting and working out with my friends have been some of the best times of my life. You will never find a group of people that are more supportive and friendly than triathletes. There is no way I could think about doing a full IM if I had to train alone. The best part about San Diego is we can train all year long and there are a lot of triathletes here. For that I am super lucky
Take care, have fun

Welcome!  Great goal - and isn't IM AZ full now?  Keep us posted on your progress.  You'll be fine with the running - you've already done the 1/2!

Thanks COGirl and Ron,
I will keep people posted on my training. I have 3 more sprints and I am doing a half IM relay (bike leg) with some coworkers remaining for this season. So I hope to focus on my sprint speed and still try to mix in some long stuff before I get serious about the whole IM stuff.
I still don't know what I am thinking.
Something I found humorous was my friend said that if she drove her car, leaving San Diego at the same time the IM started, she would be in Oregon before I finished the race. I still keep telling myself it's all in the training, nutrition and wanting to finish.

Hi Lara,
This season I have the San Diego Half marathon, Ralph's Half Ironman, Spring Sprint, San Diego International, Solana Beach, Lake Arrowhead, Mission Bay and The San Diego Triathlon Challenge (as a relay with some friends from work.)
I saw that you are doing Solana Beach. Maybe we can meet up? What other races are you doing this season?
Take care
Tom
