The ol' ohio section of the discussion boards seems pretty dead. Just wanted to know if there were any other Ohioans actually out there, and where from. I'm from the Dayton area....

Ron...are you doing anymore triathlons this season? Any recommended ones from the Akron area? I go to school with several people from the Akron/Medina area...

I am going to try to do the HFP's Portage Lakes in late September...it's pretty close in Akron.  It's a very good race.

I'm from up in the farthest northeast part of the state.  Seems like most of the active bloggers are from central Ohio.  They have already met up for some OWS.   Wish it weren't a 3+ hour drive to Columbus (and gas wasn't $3/gallon).

Ron, I was actually considering doing the Portage Lakes tri too.  But there is another local tri in Geneva on the following Sunday so if I do that one, I won't do both.  Just thinking that a Lake Erie swim on September 24th is going to be pretty chilly though and I don't have a wet suit and I'm too cheap to rent one.  So that makes me think of doing Portage Lakes instead of the local race.   I'm still up in the air as to the possibilities.

Oh, and there's also the Highmark Triathlon at Presque Isle on September 9th.   But then the Hancock Horizontal Hundred bike tour is on Sept. 10th and I really wanted to do that tour.

There is just way too much to choose from!  LOL!  That is a good thing!

Presque Isle?  That could be interesting, I hear it's beautiful up around there.  Any details?

I went and watched it last year.  I only live about 45 minutes from Presque Isle so I like to go there to cross country ski in the winter and hike in the fall.  Phoenixazul raced last year so if she stops by this thread she might be able to give more insight.

SW Ohio here, near Miami OH.  Always trying to represent.  OK so my street lingo is bad.  I just finished a tri today in Shelby near Mansfield and it was fun.  Going to do Pineman near Columbus which is the HFP main race of the year I believe.  Anyone else?  We had a mini BT gathering at Buckeye Lake and hopefully will at Pineman as well.  I have already seen 8 people signed up and I know of one other that has not signed up yet.  Hopefully the leendary ROn will show up at Pineman along with other NE Ohio Bters.

I live, work and train in Cincinnati.

I've done the Deer Creek and Caesar Creek Oly's this year. I've signed up for East Fork this Sunday, and will probably do the Buckeye 1/2 IM and maybe the Pineman 1/2 IM if I'm not burnt out.

My swimming sucks. I'm okay with that.

I think I will be doing olympic distance at Pineman. Who else is going to be there? Anybody else doing olympic distance?

Also...anybody doing the Buck Creek triathlon on Aug. 27th in Springfield? It's put on by the same group as the Pineman.

So far I believe there are about 6 people that I have seen signed up through race nexus.  I hope a few others will be joining as well for a post race BT celebration.

I am in Central Ohio, not far from Dayton.

I had considered doing Pineman, and also considered doing the Akron race.  I think Akron is out now though, I am planning on running the Air Force half marathon which is that same weekend.

Pineman might work, but I am just not sure.  I will have to check with my wife, and she may have a little something to say about it.  That would make my sixth tri this year, and that is a bunch in my book.  Wife might be telling me the tri coffers are dry... course 2 were "free" the one cost me more on hotels than if I had paid the entry fee.

I'm on the East Side of Cincinnati, Clermont County. Never done a tri. Still getting in shape. Lost 25# since AUG1 by spinning and swimming at the gym. Gonna loose another 25#by JAN1 before I start running again. I just figures that with these types of weight loss exercises I'm doing, I might as well put them together for a race next year. Don't know exactly, when, or how far. I'm still looking at all of the info on this site to try to figure out my best options.

Welcome to the Ohio area.  I hadn't noticed it until one day I clicked that I was from Ohio.  Then it showed up.  Sometimes I tend to not tell a whole lot about myself, like the area I am from.  A site like this could be a great deal for a crook, since many of us take off for tris, and are gone for several days to go and come back.

I don't want to make it any easier for someone to find my house.

I live in Portsmouth...I know..."Where?"..Portsmouth is South of Columbus (2hr) and East of Cincinnati (2 hours) I do alot of the HFP races. I'm the one in the very back. Hoping to change that this year. I look forward to meeting some other BT'ers at a few races this up coming year.
Good training.

Cool Chris, we have probably run next to each other a few times.  I do mostly HFP as well.  Hopefully see you there next year.

I ran 3 HFP races last year, not sure how many I will do this year.  Likely more than 3.

I also did one Ultrafit race, I was not very impressed with that outfit.  They ran the race pretty well, good start, but the crowds were pretty lame.  By the time I finished most of the "top finishers" were gone, or not cheering anyone on.  I felt like I was a also ran there.

Tux Brothers Racing out of Indy does some great races, but again the one race I did was part of a series.  Man those guys were fast, and not much cheering for the late finishers.

The last race I did was in Kentucky, that was really interesting.  The post race was FANTASITIC, the race itself was a little lame.  No timing chips, so you had no clue how you did on each part.  I don't know that it is a race I will re-run.

Count me in as someone who wants to meet some other BTers next season. I'm thinking of doing the Miami University tri in April and / or the Tri For Joe at Coney Island. Both are pool swims, and would be my first tri(s).

I'm looking at the HFP races in Southwest OH, as far as Columbus. I don't really have a travel budget. Possibly KY or IN as well.

I saw press for a Tri called the Three Pigs Triathlon at Miami Whitewater forest in August. I found the website and then suddenly it disappeared. Does this race exist? Did it get cancelled?

Dave

Dave,

I did Tri for Joe last year, it is a pool but it is an OUTDOOR pool.  Water temps were in the mid 60's, even with a wetsuit it was dang chilly in that pool.  The bike was pretty long for a sprint (17.5 miles).  It was a pretty cool race.

I have not heard of three pigs Tri.  So I am no help there.

Good to know. THanks for the heads-up. I still have to consult my wife's works schedule to see what I'm going to do.

Bottom line is, I am getting impatient. I made the decision to try a tri in August... too late really to do any 06 events with no prep. So, that chilly spring swim might just have to happen.

Stow, Ohio, here!

I just finished my first road race, a 5-miler, at St. Malachi last Saturday. It was fantastic and I cannot wait for what's next!

What's next may be either the Cleveland 10K or half-marathon. Still undecided... or uncertain about my abilities. But I am looking to do the Greater Cleveland and Cleveland triathlons in August.

I hope to see everyone out there!
