Sad but I will not be racing 2014 so that I can focus on my new job….

Makes me very sad.

And in order to pay for those races you need a job. What is your job that you cannot race all year, or is it that you cannot train and race because of your work schedule?

So work your tail off for a while, make some serious cash, then settle down to a less stressful job and buy some serious triatlon hardware (tricked out bike, Zipp Wheels, carbon everything etc.). I like it!

Well, everyone has their priorities.  Work is yours.  Being happy with your choices/decisions is all you can do.

Wow, those kind of hours would get old for me quickly.

I was slotted for 16Hr days minimum 2 weeks straight no days off in a man camp for 6 months while I worked as a blasting engineer for a tunnel in Canada. I still worked out EVERY DAY. Our situations are definitely different though. We had no phones, Internet, no way to call home, watch the news or balance a family life etc. I HAD to workout in order to relieve stress and keep from doing nothing but work. I wouldn't let it own me, it is merely something i do (an enjoy) that enables me to provide for the ones I love and pursue hobbies I enjoy more.

I hope you find some time to train and pursue your hobbies. Congrats and good luck with the new job!

Yeah, is there really absolutely no way whatsoever that you can't get a work-out in every other day at least? Don't have to race, but maintaining fitness should be a priority that piggy-backs your job.

FWIW: I'm w/the gov't in a field where I can literally more than double my salary if I switch to the private sector but, there are other more important stuff like family & this silly habit of racing.

Best of luck to you in your gig.

Good luck with the new job.

I found that there were times early in my career when I had to "pay my dues" with obnoxious work schedules and/or travel.  It all paid off in the long run for me.

At the end of the day you're the only one who can make any decisions about your priorities.

Hope you can find some time to workout to at least maintain your health (both physical and mental), even if you aren't able to train & race.

Again, good luck & best wishes.

Mark

started a new job in dec 2012 (relocation with new company) and sadly I pitched a shutout for all races in 2013. I am changing that in 2014 and have my first race (a trail race) in a week.

That's good. I'm not sure I could switch jobs if the new one would hamper my racing. Work to live, not live to work I say.

You’re probably not going to get it just right immediately. Like always, just do the best you can and keep on keeping on. Don’t get upset if you don’t hit the target every time.

My expectations for the quality of this years’ Triathlon world championship were fulfilled. This was because of the superb location that is like no other along with having the top triathletes present.

There is a marvelous destiny out there waiting for you too, but only if you are willing to take chances and put yourself on the line.
