Do triathlon hosts provide the timing chips or do we need to purchase our own? I have seen several comments on the timing chips and don't want to show up and not have the right stuff...also, can you wear the race belt during the bike or just during the run? Just thinking of ways to cut time off of T2. Thanks.

As said before, timing chips are provided.

Wear your race belt the whole race. No need to take it off.

it looks a little something like this.  In my last couple of races the strap was not this fancy... just a very colorful plastic band (kinda the consitancy of a livestrong bracelet)

They are provided... but, not all races use timing chips.

You can wear it during the bike... I typically do... but, it can be worn only during the run unless there is a particular race requirement. You will either spend the time to put the belt on during T1 or T2... the time is still spent... just a question of when.

Time spent putting on a race belt in T2 is pretty much zero. Just grab it and put in on during the run. I think putting it on in T1 will actually take longer in T2 because you can smooth it out/fasten it/etc with both hands while running but not so easy while riding.

Like the one above me says though...be sure to check about when you HAVE to display it. Most races I have done only require it to be visible at the finish.

For me it takes the same amount of time to put on the belt whether it be t1 or t2...

I put my belt on like a put a shirt... buckled together and pulling it over my head.

I can do the same for the run... same method of putting it on.... although I do get the advantage of running while pulling the belt over my head.

Hmm... now that I think about it... maybe the run does have a slight advantage of about 3-4 strides of forward motion while I put the belt on...
