I've been lurking for several months now, I nerd out on learning as much as I can about the things I do. This site has a pretty great community, and I am happy to be a new part of it.

The skinny on me. I am new to tris, running, cycling, and swimming . I signed up for an xterra sprint last July on a whim to spend some extra time with my brother when he came to visit. I signed up and started "training" three weeks before the event. I was fat, slow, and in a 800m open water swim without a wetsuit. I was 2nd from last out of the water and exhausted. The bike course was nuts as only an xterra can be. The run was not very nice either I finished, and was proud to have done that. I completed my 2nd sprint three weeks later, with much better results.

Since then i ran a half marathon, two 10k's, am getting better (imperceptibly) at swimming, and have dropped over 50lb off my 40 year old 6'2" frame, and am around 190lbs today. I am signed up for a HIM in june, and of course I am going to go back and CRUSH that xterra course a little later in the year.

I will check In often, but will probably lurk more than post. Rest assured when I do post, it will be EPIC (at least in my mind)

Thanks for all the great info you guys put out there.

Joseph.

Yikes!  You had quite an experience with your first triathlon.  Those Xterra's are tough....and you went back for more.

Great improvement and weightloss so far.  Which HIM are you doing?

The xterra was tough. I am almost more excited about revisiting it this summer than my HIM, and I am pretty excited for the HIM.

I'm doing the boise 70.3. Travel sucks, so I'm taking full advantage of all the local events

So what is the best way to lose weight quickly? Do you simply "starve yourself” by eating as little as possible? The answer depends on your long-term goals.
