Subject: Race marking question
So I went to support a buddy who was doing his first tri today (he loved it, BTW). After the race, he asked why they marked an "H" on the back of his right calf. I had no idea -- everyone else was marked with their age, "A" for Athena, "C" for Clydesdale, or "R" for Relay -- pretty standard stuff.

Any insights here? I've never seen anything like it (he suggested it stood for "Help")

Maybe it was for the wave he was to start with.

Maybe it was a poorly drawn 14 for his age?

I had an H on me yesterday too.  It was just my age group designation.

At my race Sunday they marked the age group with letters, verses numbers.  So everyone in my group was "G", same with the women 40-44 were "G."

It was the first time I had ever seen that done that way.

Heck I had one race they never marked anyone, because it was cool enough that everyone was wearing long sleeves, so they figured you could not see the markings any way.

At River Cities yesterday they used letters to represent your age group or C for Clydesdale or Clydesdale + for over 40 instead of marking your actual age on your leg. That might have been it.

I prefer the numbers...this way I know which women are within my age group so that I can "chat" with them after the race.

It must have been for Age Group, though, strangely enough, everyone else was marked with their age, not a "class letter." Probably just a misinformed race volunteer.
