Hi, I am Shawn, age 57. I was born with Spondylolythesis, it is currently grade2-L5, so my training has been off and on. At age 45 I did my first Olympic triathlon and a few sprints, and then I had knee surgery. I did a sprint in 2011 and 2012 and then my back started acting up. Now I feel fine and I am back at it. My goal is to complete an Olympic distance this year. I would love to go further but I just need to protect myself. Building up the running is what wears my body out.

Without paying a personal trainer or a PT on a regular basis, is there a regimen of exercises I can do to strengthen all around?

Is there any current literature or recommendations on this subject, and when do you know it's time to stop activities like running before the damage is done or worsened?

Yesterday I was a little sore, and today, whenever I bend over to pick something up, standing up again hurts badly. Have I done some sort of permanent damage? What can I do to rehab this area?

I don't really strength train (because I never have and don't really know much about it) and feel like my lack of upper body strength is the reason why I'm not getting faster.

My right foot is killing me (flat feet, wearing orthotics). I can no longer run on it and am forced to walk. After walking 10k, my foot felt like it was squeezed really hard.
