Comments:

Very bad performance. I hoped to run at most 02:30. I did a lot of walking breaks as my knee hurt badly.
What would you do differently?:

Do not underestimate the 1/2 IM distance! The 90km bike stage can really pump you out and you're left with nothing to keep good running pace. In 2014 I'll be doing only OL distances (family reasons and to provide better base for next 1/2 IM race)
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

To little base training. This 1/2 IM race was done in my second triathlo year. Too early!

Event comments:

I wanted to accomplish the race - this was the main goal.
Second goal was to finish in 6 hours - did not managed it. Oh well... Next time will be better because I know what to expect and that I must train better/differently.
Half IM is not simply 2x Olympic!

Is it realistic to race a sprint and Olympic distance race within 2-3 weeks of one another to gauge my progress before tackling the half Ironman?

I just started doing tris this summer and I have two under my belt, both sprints. Is it reasonable to build up for a Oly in early ā€˜09, with a HIM in Oct of ā€˜09

I just had a couple of problems, I could count the number of triathlons I had contested at zero. Secondly, I could count on one hand the number of times I had been swimming in the last 17 years.

I will assume you have not run consistently more than 6 miles and have never completed a half-marathon. I believe running your first half-marathon is a big task which requires dedication and work.

This half Ironman plan covers many weeks of challenging, but attainable training for someone who has some endurance experience, and ideally some Olympic distance races within the past season.
