Subject: Wearing IronMan gear when not an Ironman, yet....
This thread is more tongue in cheek. However I was on Amazon and I was thinking about getting an Iroman visor. So far the most I have finished with an Olympic distance.

So, do you think its kosher to buy and wear Ironman gear or do you think that its only an honor that should be reserved for finishers? Is the feeling akin to the Stanley Cup in the NHL where players dare not touch it until they win it.

My family wears the gear we bought at my Ironman. Love to see my girls in their IM shirts.

People wear MLB, NFL, NBA, and NHL jerseys all the time.....none of them play in the league.  Most people who see it will run away from you anyway because they're afraid you'll launch into an unsolicited race report that they don't care about at all.

If it's finisher gear then I wouldn't wear it, but regular IM gear is just gear. Wear, love it, wear it again. Also, with so much more important things to worry about why even worry about what other people think?

Many of us triathletes wear Ironman Timex watches as they are awesome cheap watches that are water proof and also have lap counter, and count down timers.

Before my first IM, I hit a great sale like 75% off of IM gear some of it IM finisher gear.....I bought some and put it in my closet. Only thing I wore was the IMLP socks, which I used for motivation in training. One of my BT friends also doing IMLP as her first thought it was bad luck and sort of called me out, but to me it helped me when training.

Finisher gear is one thing you shouldn't wear unless you are a finisher. The rest is your choice. Visor many may assume you have done an IM if you wear one and only you know how you would feel if someone asked which IM have you done.

Eh I'll go ahead and say it, I didnt wear anything Ironman until I did one. It just seemed strange to wear an Ironman logo if I hadn't actually done a race. Kinda like those shirts (abercrombie maybe?) that say "Track and Field" on them, and when I ask someone about it they have to admit "oh...no I dont actually do track and field, I just got this shirt at the mall." Very strange...

You left out the part that makes the point. LOL

It's a corporate logo.....it's for sale.  If it's for sale you can buy it.  If you can buy it you can wear it.

I just say something like "oh which events did you do?" Naturally I'm curious since I ran track too. It never occured to me that someone would wear a track shirt just for looks...

Strange? So I shouldn't wear my Tour de France shirts because I am worried that someone might think I did the Tour? What about my ghostbusters shirt? We triathletes take ourselves way too serious. Most people could care less what we wear. Only we think the world is looking at us or wants to hear about us.

When you say track shirt, do you mean a singlet or a cotton T-shirt that says track on it?

I dont think it's necessarily triathletes taking themselves too seriously and thinking that everyone's looking at us, but why wear something that's oddly specific like that. Why would I wear a shirt that says "Volleyball team" if I don't play volleyball? I'm not hating on them at all, it's just seems bizarre that people would purposely wear a shirt like that

You're having a conversation about what "we" wear.

he was talking about Abercrombie shirts, don't think they make singlets. Just fashion shirts.

I grew up in New Mexico and we all wore Ocean Pacific shirts and most had never seen the ocean. They are just shirts. It is just a brand.

My wife bought me a t-shirt that said "Clyde" on the back.  It was my favorite t-shirt and I don't even know anyone named Clyde.

I personally don't wear a race shirt unless I raced that specific race. I would love to have a "Bare Buns Fun Run" shirt but that has to be earned and I'm not willing to pay the price.

Since I assume everyone else thinks exactly like it do, don't be surprised if I ask you about your race if I see you in a location specific IM gear. I may or may not risk a conversation if you have "BBFR" gear on.

Also, like many kids born in the 70's I've noticed that nearly all high school pictures for my generation are filled with classmates who crewed at Harvard. According to one picture, I attended Oxford around the age is 16.
