Subject: Rear Derailleur Problem
My rear derailluer won't shift onto the outermost cog. It doesn't matter what front chainring I put it in either, it still won't shift to the outermost cog. But, I noticed that when I'm in the innermost cog I have to click my shifter twice to get it shift down to the next cog. I'd like to learn to make these derailleur adjustments on my own w/o going to the LBS. I've read the park website on rear derailleur adjustment, but I'm unsure if this is a derailluer problem or an index shifting problem. Any help would be appreciated.

You probably need to adjust the limit screw on the deraillure. The Park website'll tell you how.

the only problem is dont over adjust it or it will end up in your rear wheel, taking all your spokes and you with it. just bring it in and 10 mins you'll be out of there 10 bucks lighter.

Sounds like a rear derailer instead of a shifter prob. Besides parktool, you can check out sheldonbrown's website. With those two sites, you should get it right.

The zinn and the art of road bike maintenance book is like $15.  For my B day I got the mountain bike, road bike, lance book and a carmichael book.

The manufacturer's website will probably have a manual that'll help you too. I fiddled around with screws and knobs until I screwed everything up and grabbed the manual from Shimano's site. Now it works better than ever. It's a good idea to at least know how to make your own adjustments. You never knew when you'll need to fix things yourself.

I agree - adjusting your derailleurs is not too tough to figure out and a good thing to know to keep your bike running smoothly.  That way you can adjust them yourself after strenuous rides, impacts, etc.. without having to take it in to the LBS.
