Gabe, to date I've done 38 of them and volunteered in 5. Yes, you're right, you get a t-shirt after 50, 100 etc. I went to Brisbane today with a guy who did over 100 of them already. The t-shirts are kind of basic though, red for 50 and black for 100 and they come late, so it's not about the shirt, just the company and regular free race on Saturday. Today we had 280 something runners there, beautiful scenery along the river, 2 bridges, steps, ramps and perfect weather. Brilliant idea.

Adding in two runs and swim from this week. Looks like I will clock close to 25 miles this week if I nail tomorrow's run.

I'm anxious to here about Tawas and glad that Jim and Mitch get to catch up and compete together.

Dennis: nice effort. Racing tragedies suck. I have participated in a tri and a marathon where two competitors didn't make it back. One drowned and the other was a 10 hr Ironman who dropped dead .25M from the finish line. There's no way to make sense of it. Race smart and regularly get checked out by your doctors. EKGs, stress tests, etc. are important. My feeling is that you owe it your family to make sure you know what's going on and even then you can never be certain.

Jim and I met up last night and had dinner. Met up again in the morning and started the race together. I think we actually almost finished the swim at the same time. His T1 was faster than mine and he held me off until about midway through the bike. Saw each other numerous times the rest of the race. I finished a bit slower than I hoped but very happy with my first HIM. Full report probably on Monday...maybe tomorrow.

I finished in 5:55:34.

54' swim..very tough, never got comfortable.
2:51:42 bike, very hilly and good headwind most if the way.
2:00 run.

Thank you for everyone's support as I embarked on my first HIM.

Mitch, You did awesome! After a hilly and windy bike, your run was really strong. 5th place in the most competitive age group is great. Confirmation that your training is working.

Jim, I didn't realize that you were racing also. For some reason, I thought you were too busy helping with race setup, etc. Looked like an awsome race. Maybe next year ;-) You need some old ladies to come up there and race.

It was great to meet up with and then race with Mitch. We were pretty close until the third leg of the bike, then he dropped me like I wasn't even racing. I would love it if anyone and everyone in the group came up to race. It is a challenging but fun race.

Congrats Jim and Mitch. Mitch, I think 5:55 is a very respectable time. I'm flirting with the idea of a HIM in 2016 and would be very proud if that time. Great job.

Race Report up:

http://www.beginnertriathlete.com/discussion/forums/thread-view.asp...

To add to the report I have pasted a few screenshots from my garmin files. On the swim you can see how my sighting needs some imporvement. On the bike, the power tailed off as I neared the end. I think it was more due to getting uncomfortable on the bike than anything. You can also see how the speed fluctuated based on elevation but power #s stayed within a pretty tight band. The run splits exhibit a general slowing as well. At that point I was just tired.

Your training plan is a guide but you don’t blindly follow it. You shouldn’t know exactly what you are going to do until the day you are to do it.
