haha, i know companies do pay for this, but there's no way they pay THAT MUCH.  i would gladly sign up, quit my job, and drive to the beach every day for that take home.  it's a pay cut, but WAY worth it.

It came into my work inbox. I sent it to my personal mail just in case. You never know. On a related note I lost all my house keys yesterday. I thought I was having a bad day until I read about the guy bleeding all over and into Sock's shoes. Anyhow I digress- I was thinking maybe I should keep a set hidden someplace, but the question is where ? In the car not a good idea, as I've had my car broken into already a couple times. I could leave a set in the office but thats less than perfect as the commute from office to home is like an hour. I could hide a set somewhere around outside the house but wonder if this just looking for trouble as well. Anyone have any ideas ?

give a set to the neighbor?  my neighbor and i each have each other's keys.  we can help out with each other's pets or deliveries too.  i have had to get my key from him after accidentally locking myself out on a dog walk before

I don't exactly have real neighborly neighbors. That said I have a friend that lives about a couple k's away that might be the answer. Thanks !

I got a new audiobook by Stephen King from the library and put it on my Ipod.  I may start running again because I like my stories and they make me want to get some alone time and just listen...  I did 35 minutes last night and almost kept going to keep hearing it...

there is a company i work with that is a 4-hour drive here, and stephen king audiobooks are the PERFECT way to fill what could be a super boring awkward drive with my coworkers every few weeks!

I have a house key hiden in my garage. If I have my car and can get in the garage I can get in the house.  Of course if I have my car keys I have my house keys.  Mostly I am afraid of locking myself out when I go into the garage for something like going out to the mailbox.

Right!  They make long road trips SO nice.  Weird I didn't have one going to Laguna and back last month by myself.  Who doesn't like being read a story!  Especially if it's a good reader.

I'm actually looking forward to rushing home, getting my running shoes on, and getting 45 minutes in...

Give him/her a month or two and they'll find a heroin connection and leave you alone.....then they'll be robbing and stealing from the rest of us.

Long time no Tan.

Been really busy at work and life. Went Skydiving for the first time in my life last weekend. That was frigging cool.

And off to Milwaukee this coming Thursday to go scuba diving from Thursday until Tuesday.

Not much else on the go here race wise this season. Starting to think I won't even get a race in this year.

But slowly making a return back to running.

Hope everyone is doing well.

Congrats on falling from the plane slowly enough to not die, Spanky!

That is definitely on my bucket list, but I have a feeling I will have to wait a while before I can do it.

I was amazing. We did a tandem jump which made it worth it. Falling from 14,400 feet up was awesome. I will definitely do it again. I was more apprehensive then my SO. But I must admit even though I am afraid of heights. I didn't once have a "Oh gosh I don't wanna be here" Moment. She had a huge grin as she jumped out just before me.

We are already planning our next trip.

Well my day has gone into the toilet already.  My worthless asst who was completely distracted all day yesterday due to a personal issue did not reschedule the pts I needed to be re-scheduled the ONE TASK I asked her to do ALL DAY and I asked her three times to do that for me.  I now have surgery at 3pm and pts to see in the office at 3pm at the same time. I was on my coach conference call when I came in and had to hang up because I had to try to get my scheduling issue taken care of.  So I got to talk to my coach about ME for ab out 5 minutes.  Wanting to crawl under my desk curl into a ball and cry at 7:45am is NOT a good way to start my day

my day is in the toilet too!  my crazy mom is gambling again.  just awesome news.  for background:  jan 2013 my mom - who is on disability/medicaid for mental health - stole some money from my sister.  we found out it was to gamble (yay PA for legalizing casinos).  spent the past 1.5 years struggling with her, trying to get her into GA, taking control of her disability checks to make sure she actually paid her bills, loaning her LOTS of money (between my sister, me, my grandparents, and my aunt i'd say about $4000 in 6 months) etc.  one month ago she gets a big settlement check from a car accident she was in 10 years ago and takes back control of her money, pays everyone back, and immediately heads to the casino.

goddammit.

Yikes. Very complicated. As multi domensional as the situation is I think most important is not to be the enabler. Not sure this situation ever ends well.

Sorry Meh, I can't imagine how to deal with something like that.  I'm sure none of the choices on how to deal with it are easy.  The only possible "win" is if she finally gets help.  If not, you are either shelling out tons of dollars to keep her fed and in a house OR let her lose everything due to her addiction.

that is the problem with addiction (as this is no different than an addiction to alcohol or drugs, just doesn't have the physical/legal complications) until the addict WANTS help you are supposed to just sit by and be supportive while not enabling.  this fixes NOTHING.

Yay!  I forgot the joy of a good audiobook.  I'm sure some may argue that they are not as good as READING.  (I'm curious if the mind works differently if you read a story or have it read to you).  But for time management?  It's awesome.   I'm only halfway through the second chapter of Stephen Kings book "11/22/63" and it's so good!  I almost want to listen on my lunch walks and at the office but I know it would be too distracting.

He is such a good writer.  It's been years since I read any of his stuff.  Funny, I used to read everything he did but sort of slowed down after he finished the Gunslinger series 10 years ago.  I read a few things after that but must have hit a streak of some of his "boring" (to me) books and slowed down.

i think it's comparable to reading, in experience, at least.  however, i wonder if you retain what you read better than what you listen to, or vice versa, or does it even really matter when it's just reading for fun?

personally, if i need to remember something later, i NEED to see it in writing, my brain processes things better that way.  but for just entertainment or enjoyment, either way works.

I just cut and paste a quick spreadsheet together for King's books.  I'm impressed with how much he has written over the years.  I was also semi impressed how much I had read (checked them off if I read them, watched the movie, or both).

Looks like I quit him after 2005 for some reason.  Knocked out most of his books prior to that.  I always meant to read Christine, Carrie, Cujo, Dead Zone, Misery, and Firestarter, which I only watched the movies.

I listen to books while running and riding long (on a path closed to cars of course)  I love music but I don't have the time or patience to hunt for something I like to download and as a consequence I never buy music.  I like mysteries

I'm so sorry your family is going through this Meh.

I was watching Intervention last night and what you just said was the big glaring thing... until the addict realizes that they need help, nothing is going to change.

The other thing that kept coming up from the interventionist (is that a word?  no squiggly red line, so I guess it is) was that the family had to set hard rules if the person didn't get professional help and stick to those consequences.  Thankfully I've never had a family member go through this, but I can't imagine how hard it would be to be the family of the addict.

i understand the IDEA behind rules and consequences but when your mom can't pay her heating bill and doesn't have food, how do you say "no i won't give you money."  i NEVER directly gave her cash, obviously, just gift cards to the grocery store or pay her bills directly on line or on the phone, but at the end of the day, even though i no longer like her very much, i can't just let her suffer.  she is my burden now until she dies.  THAT is a really messed up mother-daughter relationship but that is really the only way i can describe it.

I don't think I've ever listened to an audio book... I'll have to try one, but I don't think I'd take in the information as well as if I were reading it off the page.  Then again, how the hell would I know since I've never tried??   Okay, off to find an audio book now!

To avoid a myriad of injuries (joint pain to your knees, ankles, hips, shin splints, foot pain, bruises), it’s invaluable to find the right running shoes.
