Socorro, New Mexico
United States
City Of Socorro
82F / 28C
Sunny
Total Time = 1h 13m
Overall Rank = 68/303
Age Group = Clydesdale
Age Group Rank = 1/29
Pre-race routine:

Had wife tape up my lower leg the night before and woke by 3:30 am and drove an hour and a half to Socorro.
Event warmup:

Light stretching.
Swim
  • 08m 9s
  • 400 meters
  • 02m / 100 meters
Transition 1
  • 01m 59s
Comments:

This wasn't a good transition because I hace a strained soleus so running quickly in the bike shoes wasn't much of an option.
Bike
  • 35m 45s
  • 12.43 miles
  • 20.86 mile/hr
Transition 2
  • 01m 21s
Comments:

The style of bike rack they use in this event makes for a slower bike rack.
Run
  • 25m 49s
  • 3.11 miles
  • 08m 18s  min/mile
Comments:

The taped lower leg and 1/4 inch heal lifts worked great for reducing the pain from the strained soelus. My run is still off by about a minute per mile but feels like it's comming back.
Post race
What limited your ability to perform faster:

Strained soleus.

Course: This is a weird shaped course with two out and back segments and some other curves. The roads are rough with a need to avoid potholes and there is a lot of rolling hills that are long and steeper than they look. It makes for a tough sprint bike.

Way to go Pilgrim!  You're going to have to add on a special wing to your house for all the medals you and your family takes home!

Keep up the good work and we'll get IMAZ next year!
