Training for my first IM. Many tough and breakthrough workouts.

My best one yet was a 4 mile 41:00 recovery run with my 10 yo son. His longest run yet. It put it all in perspective.

It sounds like you are focusing on the important experiences in life. You can't get them back, but you can cherish them. I ran with my son, usually 5K and below when he was about that age, and later when I was training for a Marathon he would ride his bike with me. I lost him 10 years ago at age 27 and I will never forget special times like that. It is great too that he is active and athletic. Congrats

Tedjohn thanks for sharing that. Got tears in my eyes. I tell my kids to live every day because you never know what life brings you. I'll remember your story always.

Actually, it was the "New User" from Key West's story. I read it too and was deeply touched. They grow up fast and you really do have to enjoy every moment with them.

It has been my experience that exercising with your children is what REALLY instills the lifestyle for them.  Some kids will take it further than others, some will be more talented than others, but the love of an active lifestyle starts with a great example.  Enjoy running with your son.....with any luck you'll be trying to keep up with him soon enough.

I spent this last Father's Day in Portland with my middle daughter who is 20 years old. We went for a 3 mile run along the Columbia River on the trail by the airport. She was a dancer for years, and drill team in high school. She is just getting into running now that she is in college. She wants to do a half marathon in the fall with me. Happy Dad.

Btw I've done the STP (205 mile Seattle to Portland bike ride) twice with my youngest girl. Also Happy Dad.

Enjoy it. I ran with my dad from high school until he had his hip replaced 4 years ago. Did my first marathon with him. When my wife and I were moving around the country for business, whenever my dad came to visit we would find a race and run together. A life time of memories, and lots of sweaty hugs.
