201 Hereford, England | Subject: Couple of Bike Fit Tips Please Hi, Here are a couple of videos of me. Just wondering if anyone can give me a few tips for a better bike fit. I know I'm quite forward on the saddle, and someone has said before about an angled seat post. I do want one, just can't find one... cheap enough anyway. On the front view, I seem to be wobbling side to side a bit. It's the first time I've ever used a trainer, don't know if it's normal? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mp1SkREQPs8&feature=youtu.be https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tK4GLnqzhso&feature=youtu.be Thanks for any tips! |

Champion 7136 Knoxville area | Subject: RE: Couple of Bike Fit Tips Please Flip your seatpost around. You are likely wobbling because of how far forward you are. You don't look very balanced over the bike. You're getting in sketchy waters when you start trying to make a road bike into a tri bike imho. |

201 Hereford, England | Subject: RE: Couple of Bike Fit Tips Please I've tried flipping the seat post. It didn't work, the seat couldn't get near an angle to sit on. I don't think I did it wrongly, lol. But if that doesn't sound normal, I'll try again? |

You're overthinking this. I take the point about this, and it seems fair. But I'd give these reasons for not: Comfort - First time I used them I found it much more comfy. Now I ride in them most of the time, only hills and some interval rests I'm out of them. Aerodynamics - These pretty much speak for themselves. But mainly... Interest - I enjoy tweaking bits, measuring the angles, seeing what it does. I know it's over-thinking, but coming from a maths/physics background, it's just what I enjoy. My original sport was the pole vault - think of the angles through the vault I could measure! If I keep interested, do I train more? I know the argument of train the engine, but I'm doing that as well. I've just got a trainer, not the best, but my dad had one he isn't using now. Since my first tri, I realise the bike is my weakest, by a lot. I've started training harder, including intervals, which I never used to do before my first tri. But why not make gains to the engine and my position? Edited by Eucid 2014-07-24 3:35 AM |

Pro 5892 , New Hampshire | Subject: RE: Couple of Bike Fit Tips Please Chris and Left Brain got it right. There's no way that bike will be stable and balanced when you ride with a forward weight distribution, just not designed that way. I would guess you would need to move back at least 2 full inches (I know that's a lot, but you're riding ahead of the BB!), which means that the reach of the bike will be too long for those aero bars. If you want to keep aero bars on your road bike, get a pair designed for it, Vision Tech Mini TT's for example (or any other ITU "shortie" style bars). |

Based on that, here are some things I would research before worrying about fit angles and trying to make a road bike into a tribike. - rake and trail - wheelbase - front-centre If you look at these and their impact on bike handling, you'll have a better idea of what the changes you are making are going to do to bike handling. Master 10208 Northern IL | Subject: RE: Couple of Bike Fit Tips Please Your arms and upper torso may be a bit different from a tri position, but you can still very well train the legs and lower torso well while using a road position. Follow some of the other suggestions so that you'll be working with what you have more than force fitting things. |
