Already thinking about next year and want to branch out a bit and try a race somewhere out of the local area. Thinking within a 6 or so hour drive out of Boston. Thinking Oly distance race, but would consider Sprint or HIM. Whatcha' got, BT?

I know I can try Trifind, or the link above, but looking for actual racer recommendations. Thanks!

I don't know of a certain race, but look for something in the Lake George area of NY. Absolutely beautiful lake, nice hilly roads, I bet they have a bunch of events throughout the summer.

Checkout the Musselman in Geneva NY, ~5 hours from Boston.  I haven't done it yet myself but know others that have and always heat good things about it. Kids mini-sprint on Friday afternoon, Sprint on Sat, HIM on Sunday.

Oh, that looks interesting. I could swing by and to that on my way to New England next summer.

x2.

I've personally raced it the last 5 years, have clients who race it every year, plus several alumni from the chapter of TNT that I volunteer with do it every year.  You won't find many people who have anything negative to say about Musselman, and most people rave about how awesome it is.  Definitely a first-class race.

Based on other races I want to do, I'm likely stuck on July, unless you have something really cool to recommend

x3 on Musselman. Raced it 3 times, and love that race. The RD is great, the race is very well organized and the local town really comes out and supports the race. The local college opens up for cheap housing on race weekend, so that's another plus. This race would be a very good choice. As everyone has said, it's a first class event.

As for selling out, it sells quickly, but not sure how fast. I think registration opens in November, and it sells out by Feb/March. I may be a bit off on this, but it's certainly does not sell out immediately.

Another race closer to Boston that you may want to also consider is the Litchfield Hills Olympic. It's just west of Hartford, CT, and put on by the Hartford Marathon folks . A very nice race, good course and very fresh water swim. I've done that race a few times too and really enjoy it.

I've been thinking of doing timberman in NH next year. Looks pretty cool.
