Subject: RE: stomach crunch Okay, there's no such thing as "spot reduction" of fat, but there is such a thing as exercises that work on specific muscles. FWIW, for lower abs I occasionally do hanging leg raises (on that vertical contraption in the gym where you rest your elbows on pads and your legs hang), scissor kicks (I rest my hands under my tailbone, keep my head up, and do a horizontal scissor kick for 60 beats, rest, repeat), curl-ups and V-ups (the V-ups are harder, but if they ever get easy try holding yourself in the "up" V position for a count of ten, yeah back when i was a kickboxer one of my dear teachers tortured us with those), and, well, I don't even know what to call one: lying on back back on an incline bench, with my head on the upslope and my feet pointing down, I hold the grips with my hands and SLOWLY brring my legs up into the yoga "plow" position, hold for a few seconds, then slowly bring them beck. It's hard, but to me feels realy good. 3 reps is enough. The caveat of course is that I personally have NO visible abdominal muscles. Yeah, um, now that i'm not kickboxing any more, i don't do ANY core work regularly. And my BF is... significantly higher than yours. So... good luck! |
