So it seems that at least once a week, there pops up the ever popular "guy thinking about shaving" thread. And i must admit, I am one of "those" guys who frequently considers shaving for all the dozens of reasons that everyone has proclaimed through various postings, but hasn't built up the guts to actually go through with it. Whether its the disaproving looks when i 'jokingly' brought it up to my girlfriend, or being afraid of other's judgements.... i've gotten past that and decided that the expected arrival of my new bike (weeeeeeeeee) needs to be celebrated with some smooth fast new legs.

SO.... if theres anyone out there who has been thinking about 'taking the plunge' and thinks that a little online support team might give you the motivation to go through with it... let me know and we can set a date.

It was just an idea i had, so hopefully there are a few takers..(othewise i might look a bit dumb, but whatevah)

I haven´t shaved my legs in years. I remember showing up at club rides and races and having people say, "You haven´t even shaved your legs!" I´m cool with having hairy legs.

I have to tell you. My girlfiend used to give me the same looks when I orginally brought it up. But before a really important race I did it. Arm, legs, chest, all of it. And believe me she isn't complaining now. She gets upset when it grows out a little and gets prickly. She says it makes me sexier.

So go for it man.

I do my chest...done it for YEARS. A few years back I competed in a bodybuilding competition and shaved everything. My wife HATED the legs. Said she felt like she was sleeping with another woman. Ha!

Hey, I was one of those guys that started a thread a few weeks ago. I am all for it. Just haven't done it yet. My first tri is not till 10/9, so I am good anytime in the next few weeks.

Jameson,

I just took the plunge 3 days ago. Boy, is it wierd. First of all, I used an electric trimmer to cut the hair down to a managable length. Then, I used my normal gel shaving cream and the Gillette 3-blade razor. It was very awkward, but I got it done (no cuts). My skin is now very sensitive without its usual covering. It is a very strange feeling. It has more than doubled the time to take a shower.

I'm thinking about doing the chest/arms, but I have to give this to my girlfriend in small doses. She was against it at first, but has mellowed to the idea. My tri's are all in warm water over the next 2 months, so I don't think they'll allow wetsuits and I need every advantage I can get.

I'd HIGHLY recommend using an electric razor FIRST to get it short/close to the skin. Not doing this first will require a good couple hours effort.

Ahh, let's see, right now it is: Chest, Upper Arms, and Legs. ( Oh, and Face! )

What's the verdict/consensus on lower arms? I use a beard trimmer to keep it pretty short already.

I was slightly concerned about what my friends would say. After the first day, they didn't say/do anything.

I've got a tri on Saturday, so I think I might do my arms for that ( as well as everything else ) on Friday.

I started shaving about a year ago, put it off for a while despite pressure from my cycling friends. Almost did it when I got a severe case of road rash last June, then I got bit by a dog in August, on the shin. Prior to suturing, the nurse shaved most of my lower leg, dry, with a single razor blade (no handle). I figured that wasn't so bad, so went home and shaved the rest of my legs and arms. Didn't do it for the compliments, but I have gotten so many in the last year that I doubt I will ever stop shaving. Not that big of a pain, I get by doing it twice a week, use a triple-bladed Venus razor and Edge gel.

Wifey was OK with arms and legs, drew the line at chest and, uh, other places.

Be glad to participate in the First Annual Trispot/beginnertriathlete.com (Inter)National Shaving Day, especially if it's held on a Tuesday or a Friday.

Your skin will get used to it. I just use soap for my chest now. No irritation.

Shaved the chest because I was sick of the wooly mammoth look coming out of the pool. Dont regret it even a little bit but there are only so many hours in a day I just think legs would be so time consuming the upkeep. However Im not opposed to it either. My question is have any reformed shavers let it grow back? Does it come back in full force or is it the same as when it left? If its the same I'd be more inclined to try it at least once if not its definitley something to think about I dont want to have to do this at 60+

Good questions Soupaman! I have one as well. What about us less haired or thin haired men, do we still need to do it. Or are the only ones needing it to do it are the ones that wear the full body rug??

You could always get it waxed...then you'd only have to do it every few weeks or less.

I shaved my legs for a short while a few years ago, it did take a while to grow back to normal length... but it came back just as i had left it... i didnt grow any rugs or anything on my legs after i stopped shaving..

I'm excited that we may have a few takers..... haha. I'm thinking friday would be a good day for the 'festivities"

God if I could get away with not shaving then I wouldn't! I hate it, hate it, hate it. But I'm a girl and unless your European hair is gross on girls. Actually I hate body hair in general, but hate shaving more.
If I was a guy I wouldn't even think about it.

And I just read in a cycling magaine that though there is a myth about shaving your legs, it doesn't make you more AERO- its just tradition, so they say. Of course I hear it is much nicer having road rash on smooth legs - no hair to pull out.
Of course I have to agree that men's legs are sexier when shaved you can see all the definition (YUM). My hubby doesn't shave, but one guy on our team does - nice legs!
