Subject: How do you clear fogged goggles during a swim?
I have my first Olympic distance Tri coming up this weekend and the swim is last after the run. In training my body is so hot after the run that even brand new goggle claiming to be anti-fog fog . I have tried several different makes and models without much success. Is there a trick to clearing fogged goggles in the middle of a swim? Does toothpaste really work?

I don't have any anti-fog solutions. Good luck with the race.  I've never raced where the swim is last. Let me know how that goes.

Not so much from a tri perspective, but when I used to go diving, spit was what I used. Also, as soon as I got in the water, I would flood my mask then clear it. Obviously harder to do while in a race.

Since they're going to fog anyway and it's harder to clear them mid-swim, on your way to the swim, spit in them and rub it all around inside with your finger. When you get to the water rinse once and put them on. I do this every time I swim and have never had a fog problem when I do it.

apply a small amount of baby shampoo when the goggles are dry, rub it around then wash it out with water. During the swim however, you may have to spit, lick or continually wash them out with water.

Toothpaste is typically used inside scuba masks with tempered glass to remove a film.

For most people spitting in the goggles and rubbing it around should work. It only works for me if I don't rinse the goggles off, so you may need to try it out and see.

For a small group of people that I had dove with spitting in the mask does not work. I don't know if this has to do with their salaiva, body temperature or what, but it just doesn't work. If you're one of these people, get an antifog solution from your local dive shop. SeaDrops is the most popular I believe.

That's exactly what I do - baby shampoo, works just as good or better (certainly cheaper) than anti-fog solution. Some have suggested keeping a small amt of water in your goggles and swish your head around when they get fogged up to clear them. Personally, I just stop swimming if it is unbearable. But the baby shampoo trick works pretty well.

Spit works best for me too.

Baby shampoo has worked great for me. You don't need to use a lot, just a dab and rub it around. I have used spit, but the shampoo seemed to work better. Good luck!
