i have 23 inch tires on my road bike that says to inflate to 100psi I have heard this depends on your weight. for example with the chart i was looking at it said for my weight of 195lbs my tires should be 120psi-130psi. any input? isnt this overinflating the tire and cause it to explode?

You should never over inflate your tires.  The chart probably means that you should have tires that are inflated to 120-130psi, not inflate any tires to 120-130psi.

Go by the tolerances on the sidewall, don't vary too much from them ......

don't worry about your tires exploding - there's a big safety margin.

i used to inflate my tires to the max - more pressure is faster, i thought. then i found that staying a bit under max pressure actually make me faster. i'm not sure why, maybe the road adherence is better that way.

anyways, you're best served by going with the manufacturer's specs.

I agree with AWOL - used to overinflate by 10 psi (130 vs. 120), but found they actually ran smoother at the recommended pressure.

Like others said, go with what is on the tire sidewall. You can go right up to the max. 100psi is kinda low for a 700x23, are those cheap tires? The higher the pressure, the less resistance and faster the wheel can spin. So if you want higher pressure, buy some new tires that can handle it. Make sure your pump can handle it too, though

I would recommend NOT overinflating your tires.  I've had not only tires blow out from doing this, but actually a wheel too.  Granted, the wheel probably didn't have too long of a life left as it had a small stress fracture that we didn't know about, but I couldn't hear for about 15 minutes after that.

Yea... well... they won't explode... but you might have 2 flat tires the next day!

I got my tubes changed and new tires... and the shop inflated them to 145 PSI... said my new tires were built for that PSI.

So, I go to ride the next day... and BOTH of my NEW tires/tubes are FLAT! I was so pissed! Come to find out... both tires blew out by the valves.

I had to buy 2 more tubes and replace them... what a pain.
