Extreme Veteran 5722 | Subject: Kona 2015 :-) For those interested in IM racing, here is a contender for next year Lionel Sanders http://lsanderstri.com/2014/10/10/kona-update-1/ "I rode the 180k in right around 4 hours 40 minutes. Afterwards, I took two hours of recovery, and then went to a local fitness centre and ran 36 kilometers in 2 hours 22 minutes and 5 seconds. Overall it was a good training day" Read his blog, this guy does marathons on the treadmill. If he can improve on the swim, he will be dangerous. |

Extreme Veteran 1986 Cypress, TX | Subject: RE: Kona 2015 :-) We will see how he does at the IM distance in a couple of weeks. I'm guessing he will do quite well. His running ability is ridiculous. That 1:09 at the Syracuse 70.3 earlier this year is scary. That run course is tough. He has to improve that swim though. Normally if one is not in the lead pack of swimmers they have no shot at Kona but Kienle bucked that trend this year. |

Normally if one is not in the lead pack of swimmers they have no shot at Kona but Kienle bucked that trend this year. At Tremblant 70.3 WC he had the fastest bike split and ran faster than Tim Don. He come out of the water alone but at the wrong end of the pack. He did work his way up to 4th place. He seems to be able to do mind numbing boring workouts (marathons on a treadmill), so I suspect he will enjoy swimming :-) |

Expert 2355 Madison, Wisconsin | Subject: RE: Kona 2015 :-) Saw him race this year and his speed is unbelievable. IM distance will be interesting, some have great success others cannot figure that race out. Will be great to watch, but I still think Frodeno will win if he doesn't flat. Imagine if he took up the offer to swim in 9th grade that he declined! Edited by bcagle25 2014-10-17 7:53 AM |

But he is also clear that not all IT studs can succeed at IM. Macca actually talked about it in the IM Talk podcast. He believes Gomez will come over to IM and win Kona. I think everyone believes this He doesn't believe Alistair will. He also comments on Alistair's racing ability in the heat. I wonder how hot Bahrain will be. Exciting times ahead in long course racing. |

I bet they race 70.3 which may gateway them to the IM distance especially if the lure of Kona fills their wallets and egos. |

Think they can/will excel at 70.3 distance, I see their achillles heel in Kona being their durability over the course of their career. Time will tell. |

The rumor is that they will go head to head with Gomez at Challenge Bahrain which is HIM distance. I hope it's hot. |

Isn't a $120k prize easier to get doing what they're already doing? |

They will eventually become less competitive on the ITU circuit and more competitive at long course. I'm looking at 2017 and beyond. |

I remember playing tennis at night and calling it quits after 45min because of the humidity. Maybe time has clouded my memory but I was surprised that Rinny said she was looking forward to a wetsuit legal swim. Since the swim is in the bay perhaps the water temp is different, but I remember swimming in the Gulf before and thinking of it as a very warm and salty bath. I can't imagine riding without hosing off all that salt. |
