Had a great workout tonight. Next to last week of my tri group training - we were supposed to do full sprint. Pool swim, T1, 10 mile bike, T2, 3 mile run. Thunderstorms had other plans and the pools closed while my bike got soaked on the roof rack. We did 10 miles on the spin bike including hills and sprints, then 3 miles on the track. I was fastest on the bike by a minute or so, had a quick transition, then had my fastest 3 mile run ever on the track at just over 20 mins. Helps to have no hills but damn slowing to turn every 25 yards wears thin fast...

I'm celebrating with a Heady Topper.

Whoop! Whoop!! Heady!! Just picked up a couple of 4 packs myself! ...for a friend though. Had to get there before they sold out and they only let you take 2 four packs at a time.

Up early heading to an ows followed by a run. Later while boys are at climbing camp I'll get my hour in on the bike (though I kind of want to stay and climb...)

Go Kurt! You're gonna crush it! I'm not as interested in the bike as I am in the celebratory beers following the finish line. Good luck!

That being said I am 10/10 on my 5k/day for 10 days journey! Off on mini camping holiday tonight! Yeah!

Wouldn't have been as bad, but that I got waylaid by the neighbor for 40 min on my way out. Anyway, got in my ride and it was blegh...I feel your pain Dave! Afterwards I went for a short swim, which was supposed to be a long swim, but the water in my pool was just too warm to be doing a long set today.
If y'all wanna feel some real heat, come join me down in the bayou. Gives an entirely new meaning to hot.
103F air temp with 85% humidity when I got back--pretty hot

For a guy who loves to row and drink warm Molsons - you are one tough guy. Ten days of running can be brutal on the body. Considering youre so much older than me how do you feel?

Thanks to the thunderstorms last night, I wasn't able to get in my swim so I will have to do it this afternoon after the camp at the school where we live closes. Then I'm gonna run 7 on Saturday and ride 70 miles up the highest mountain in the state (Wachusett) on Sunday. Gonna be slow going but the ride should help me get ready for my HIM a month from now.

Question for the group - Do you all want to keep doing weekly goals. I've posted this a couple of times but haven't gotten a lot of takers. Let me know what you want to do - it's your forum.

My assignment for you is to answer the following question - WHAT IS YOUR PROUDEST ACCOMPLISHMENT FROM THE MONTH OF JULY?

Have a great weekend everyone!

Normally, HELL YEAH! Tomorrow though we're off to New Bedford. Packet pickup for the wife at 2 followed immediately by the largest Portuguese cultural gathering in the world outside of Portugal, the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament of Madeira aka the Portuguese Feast! Lots of eating and drinking Madeira wine, outside, hanging with friends, listening to live music. Sunday will be basically the same, the wife has her race in the morning (Whaling City Triathlon) then off to the Feast after a shower and change of clothes.

I think I have two.
1. Completed my first ever Triathlon! did better overall than I expected, only finished a few minutes (and like 5 AG places) behind a good friend/experienced triathlete/one hell of a runner, and had I not lost a couple minutes in T1 due to inexperience, I would have been much closer!
2. Fastest ever 3 miles*. 3 miles, 20 minutes and change (less than 30 seconds, we were using the wall clock for timing...)

*-as an adult. In high school cross country as a 17 year old I know I was faster than this. As an adult I've been working my way down from 10min/mile pace.

July. Sticking with it.
I ran more, and stuck with the program, knowing that I had this Tri coming up. Other than that, I didn't get anything special accomplished.

John, here's my trusty ol' steed...

Niiiiiice. I love the wheels! I've seen a few bikes with white spokes but haven't seen any currently for sale wheels with them - everything is black nowadays.

Proudest accomplishment for July

1.) Smashing my goals at Lakeside Tri!!

2.) 43 workouts in...consistency baby, that is where it is at this year!

Swim: 9h 14m 22s - 18200 Yd
Bike: 17h 29m 54s - 273.28 Mi
Run: 9h 35m 29s - 38.28 Mi
Strength: 2h 30m

3.) Facing my fears and signing up for an Oly in September

I know you only asked for one Dave, but July was good to me.

The wheels are budget fancy. Shallow aero, bladed spokes and lighter than the original set. I cracked a rim two days befor riding some of RAGBRAI in 2010. Figured why not, and upgraded They were cheap, but have stayed true since purchase. Not a small feat, hauling around this Clyde!!!!! I think I just wanted the white spokes.

I caught the cold that my daughter has.... Great timing. Ugh.

Oh, and I mowed today. Pulled those darn weeds out too.

30 mile ride this morning. It was terrible and felt like nature was conspiring against me getting into any kind of groove. Was chased by four dogs, including a rotwiler (I know no breeds are "bad" and am a dog person, but seeing that 90-100# pile of muscle coming at you is terrifying. BTW...he was sweet as could be when I stopped--pet him until his owner could catch up), a pack of geese (which are MEAN), a deer, and three campus squirrels (that are so nutty I swear they are their own species). Then, the crazy drivers were out in full force. Also got stopped by campus police to see if I'd seen anything suspicious. After that I decided it was time to pack it up and come home.

After a few days of involuntary silence.... I am back! Took a week off to pick up my son from summercamp in Wakefield, MA - drove with the family to see friends in Portland, ME and New Haven, CT, and had a great tour of Boston on Segway (I know, not very sportive but a lot of fun!) After gaining some weight after eating all junk food possible and enjoying some of your great beers, back to work!
Today 45 min run to get my legs ready, starting a new plan till October, aiming for an Oly/HIM
Congrats to all that raced recently/racing this weekend!

Rest day for me. The only thing I do on Sunday is schedule my training sessions for the week. I do this old school--little slips of paper moved around on the floor until I get it to all fit in the week. This week is the peak week of this training block, plus I have a tri on Saturday, so it is complicated. Got everything arranged as well as can be expected and then looked at it as a whole. First words out of my mouth were "this is gonna suck", followed shortly by "but be awesome at the same time".

Juan - the next time you come to Boston, we have to get together for a beer! Where are you priorities

Seriously - good luck with the training. Are you gonna try to do the OLY/HIM this year? Here in the states HIMs are few and far between after the summer months. With warmer weather are the offerings better on your side of the pond.
