New shoes should be here by Friday evening. I've been wearing New Balance 13-4E for the past 8-10 years and am going back to them. The ball of the sole on the Saucony's is just not wide enough. First thing I'm gonna do is take them for a 4.5 mile power walk around the River Rd. If that doesn't blister me or cause me pain nothing will. And that will mean I will no longer have any excuses. (Is just plain lazy an excuse?)

I'm itching to get back to training! My legs feel great. My plan doesn't start until Monday, but I will get a run this weekend. It's so nice to have a weekend with no activities planned or no long runs that I "have" to do. I can just run because I want to!

12/23 - Walk - 48m 44s - 3.00 miles - 16m 14s /Mi

12/23 - JSHS again. Since I had no class for 6th period I decided to walk the entire lunch period instead of just the second half, and then eat during 6th. Kids on the wrestling team told me 7 laps makes a mile and I finished my third mile just after bell. Wish I worked here full-time, I'd have a lunch workout every day.

With apologies to Nancy Sinatra, these boots are NOT made for walking!!

I survived my marathon couple weeks ago but the baby momma said no more that is it. you can work out week days but no more racing. Well I signed up for 10 mile run at the end of May. Baby will be 13 months at that time and hoping she changes her mind before then. until then its trying to get faster time. I figure if I am faster I can make a better case for running.

Not too happy with Running Warehouse right now. Their (edited by spelling police) 2 day delivery just became 5 days, if I'm lucky. Heck, it took the 2 days just to ship the shoes. Guess it's a good thing I got my walk in at school today.

About that walk, BTW, I noticed the pace was 16:14 and thought "No way, not in these boots." So I called one of the gym teachers and asked them about the distance. They said it's not quite 8 laps for a mile and that my 21 laps was more like 2.75. A pace of 17:43 seems much more reasonable, although even that seems fast in those boots. But I'm betting the gym teacher knows the distance better than I do. He ran it through his phone calculator, so I'm accepting his 2.75. My log has been corrected but I can't edit the previous posts.

12/23!? Wow, my challenge for October turned out to be a dismal fail. On the one hand I can blame it on the massive blisters caused by poorly fitted running shoes and how the depression of not being able to walk to meet my goals just sapped my motivation. But that's just a bogus excuse. I let myself down, and I let myself blow off workouts when I could have switched up to swimming or biking. November WILL be better!

Hi all. I know it's been a really long time since I have been here but see that my amazing husband, Mike, is still active here. It has been a long year for me battling to recover from Achilles tendinitis and think I might finally be reaching the light at the end of the tunnel. I have fewer and fewer painful days and was even able to walk close to 13 miles and stand for almost 10 while spectating and cheering on Mike at the Marine Corp Marathon with only a little bit of pain that did not last too long. Let me add how damned proud I am of him for finishing that marathon! I had no doubt he would do it and was so glad to be there to encourage and cheer him on. Unfortunately as much as I would love to be able to go for runs with Mike, I am heeding the advice of my ortho and giving up running. I'll stick to swimming and biking.

I begin my journey back to a healthy me starting now (would love to drop 40 lb but not an easy journey for me) and have my new training plan all cued up and ready to go on Monday - back to the couch to sprint but hey, it's a start. And on the planned run days will be walk days instead.

Weight: 260.5. Up 1.5 from mid-week, but down 1 total for the week. I'll take it.

I need one of those shocking bark collars that zaps me every time I think "I'm too...." in regards to getting the work in. sheesh.

Let's get Week 2 of this program started:
11/1: 1.26mi in 14:56. 11:50/mi avg.
Kinda surprised, wasn't really pushing it either...

Randi, welcome back!! I had been wondering where you were but was afraid to ask for fear it could be a tender subject. May I suggest you look into racewalking? Maybe even talk to your ortho about it. That's how I plan to do the final leg of all my future tris.

Rick, I'm right there with you buddy! If you look at my October calendar you will, sadly, see more white days than pink days. Want to try my November challenge? Looking at the calendar, there are four full weeks this month, with single day on either end. I am going to shoot for no more than 2 white days per week, another 20/30 month. And I will be shooting for a 10% increase across the board on mileage.

1/20 - Bike - 24m 30s - 4.53 miles - 11.09 Mi/hr

New month, new challenge, still no new shoes though. After regressing to nearly couch-potato status last month I decided that I HAD to kick start today. Several things conspired to interfere. First of all, I spent three hours cleaning our the hen house. After each wheelbarrow full of litter I covered each with a wheelbarrow full of aged compost form the other side of the bin. Shoveling litter and compost may not qualify as a triathlon specific but anybody who doesn't think it's exercise is welcome to visit me in April for the spring version of today. Then there was this fantastic football game on today, Giants vs Saints. Wow! Look it up. Once that was over I got the Quick CX out and went for my ride. It wasn't fast and it wasn't long, but I cannot remember ever activating my EIA DURING a workout! I had every intention of trying for 3 laps; but between the late game finish, DST, chilly temps, and my EIA, I was honestly lucky to finish the single lap I did. Boy, do my lungs hurt!

That was a good game! Although there wasn't much defense. I'm just glad the Giants lost (coming from an Eagles fan).

Count me in for the November 20 workout challenge. My maintenance plan starts tomorrow (2 bikes, 2 runs, 2 swims per week).

I'm also doing a 30 day core challenge. It's a mix of sit-ups, leg lifts, crunches ad planks. I started that today.

So despite 'regressing to couch potato status' as you put it, you still beat all your totals from October. That's progress my friend.

Good job on beating your last month and good luck on smashing it again this month!

Haha, the only thing tender was her Achilles! She's still my biggest fan and supporter. She's been putting up with me disappearing for longs runs, etc. There were even a few when she had to come pick me up on the side of the road when the run went bad.

Not having any children I don't feel that qualified to comment on this, but just remember, we all do this for fun. Don't put too much stress on the relationship to go racing.

A jogging stroller sounds like a great idea tho, running for you and time off for your baby momma. that's a win win

So, last week life very much got in the way of proper training. Coming off a long weekend Monday was a day off, an emergency at one of out customers plant caused a trip away on Thursday, and another day off, and finally putting my bike back into the car after Saturdays ride, somehow I hurt my back... (Man that makes me feel old) so Saturday afternoon, and Sundays runs also canceled.

Any way for the month I managed:

Swim, 4,750m, 1:39:38
Bike, 135.9km, 6:04:49
Run, 147.5, 17:24:05 for a total of 25:08:32 for the month,

up from

Swim: 0:31:29, 1500m
Bike: 4:39:21, 100.7km
Run: 14:25:51, 121.7km a total of 19:36:41 for the month

It's a big week coming up for me. Sunday I'm scheduled to race my first Triathlon since 2013. My PB is in no danger, in fact I'm probably going to set an all time worst time for a sprint tri. But I can't wait. Very much looking forwards to it.

So to get ready i'm also going to race an OWS event on Thursday night. This series runs almost all summer, I used it building up to my HIM to get OWS practice in, and race one is this Thursday. Perfect timing.

Losing fat is not difficult. So why does this continue to be an elusive goal for so many people, who “struggle” just to lose a few inches?
