Subject: Buying wetsuit online?

I am in the market for a new wetsuit--yay!  How many of you have purchased your wetsuits online?  Is it preferable/necessary to try it on first?  My first and only wetsuit purchase was 5+ years ago and snapped up a clearance suit off the rack .  Luckily it fit and served me well for five years. For those of you that have ordered online, can you recommend some good sites to check out? Thanks!

I ordered my 1st sleeveless from ProMotion (www.wetsuit.com).  I didn't know which size was best for me so I called them and they told me to make a few measurements and call them back.  Did that and ordered the size needed and was good.

I bought my full wetsuit used via ST classifieds. SInce I knew my sizing I wasn't worried about the fitting

Me, too...ditto on the sizing procedure, and it fit perfectly.  We get a discount as BT members, as well.

I purchased mine from XTERRA, very good pricing and I love the wetsuit but it took about 2 months to get it.  My wife ordered it in December and I didn't get it until February.

I borrowed the exact same model from a friend for the previous season so I was sure of the size, however, the sizing chart on the website was pretty good.

I wonder, could you use your current suit as a guide to sizing on a new one?

I've had this thought a couple times, as I've repaired my several season old 2xu suit several times and it's starting to really show its age...  Was wondering if I could call a vendor and ask about equivalent fitting suits.

Something to consider, at least.

GL!

Matt

I got an xterra online during one of their frequent sales. I used the sizing guide and it fit well.

I got a new Xterra at the end of the year.  I don't have an 'off-the-rack' physique (5'-7" with 46" chest and 29" inseam) and was concerned about getting a good fit.  I found the sizing guidelines on their website to be very helpful and the suit fits well.

Both my Xterra's were purchased online fit and pricing were good especially with the promo specials and delivery was a couple of weeks to the great white north when in stock.

My experiences have been great with Xterra.  I have gone thorugh two suits with them.  I bought my wife a suit with them that did not fit how she wanted it to.  Return and receipt of new suit went quickly and smoothly.

I've also bought a high end suit off Ebay.  I was replacing my race suit so knew the make, model, and size.  Was a great deal.

Another plug for Xterra, I have gotten two from them, sleeveless and full, both fit perfectly and have done well. I recommended them to a few friends locally and all have been very happy with the experience and cost. There are always sales and I still think the code BT get's one of the best discounts.

Bought a wetsuit direct from Xterra. Shipping was pretty fast, and the fit was spot on, according to their fit chart. I know there are a lot of choices out there, and a lot of other brands with more "cache" on race day, but, for me, the Xterra fits my needs perfectly.

Wore it one season, with maybe a dozen open water swims in it. Worked great in typically 70 deg water or thereabouts.

So depending on what ya want, the Xterra suit gives you great quality, for a good price, with a great 30-day trail period to try it out, with a very generous return policy if you need to change sizes. Basically, if you don't mark your name in it (or pee in it either, although that's gonna have to be on the honor system) they will take it back and let you try another.

Right now you can get a sleeveless for 99 bucks and a full for 199. That's pretty good value in my book. If I get a couple of seasons out of it, and have to replace it, I'm good to go with that.

I'm another +1 for the ProMotion suit. They were helpful with a couple of emails I sent and shipped very quickly. The suit fits well and is well made. Won't hesitate to order from them again.

I'm looking for my first wetsuit and have gotten sold on the DeSoto T1 2-piece. I've been doing some research on ST and Emilio makes himself personally available for any questions. It's not an entry level suit and doesn't have an entry level price but I think the service and lifetime warranty make it worth while. It may not be for you but I definitely think it's worth looking at. I'm taking measurements and sending photos of myself to them to size me. I can rent a suit and if I like it I can buy it, I don't know for sure but probably a little less that full retail price. From what I hear their service is second to none and they will do everything to make sure you get a proper fitting wetsuit. Based on my research the fit is the absolute most important aspect of a wetsuit, the difference in brands has little to do with performance. The difference in performance will more likely be due to the fit and the overall cut of the suit rather than the composition.

I love Wetsuitrental.com. I've gotten two used wetsuits from them. I'm a newbie but they look as good as new, great prices and they are very nice on the phone. Picked out the brand and style, called and gave them my size, wt. etc and they sent a suit. First time around I returned the suit for another size, quick delivery and quick turnaround time on return.
Good suit, cheap, free shipping and couldn't be nicer. No I don't work for them, but do want to support them.
Just helped my friend get her first suit from them and she's happy.

I've been considering a huub or an xterra depending on what the budget looks like, but Id love to get a used wetsuit if it was going to be much cheaper tbh :p

Use the discount code BT, makes the full sleeve $170.

Check out the classifieds on ST, someone has a bunch of Xterra's for sale. Mostly women's sizes but I think they were all priced around $50.

Buying online from US based retailers is a non starter for me as a Canadian. Lots of Americans goof up customs forms. My current suit should be good for 4 more years barring an accidental tear. ROKA and HUUB are the 2 best fitted suits for a swimmers frame.

I bought a Synergy online from wetsuitoutlet.com. I went with an order model and they shipped me a new one. I love it. Very flexible so it fits many body types. I've had a few buddies buy them since. All happy.

Well I said that I was not going to do it this season, but I cracked. I broke down and bought a new bike. I went out and bought a shiny new Cannondale road bike.
