Subject: New to Triathlon
Hi Everyone,

My name is Jessica. I am 25 years old from Victoria, Australia.

I am starting to train for my first ever Triathlon in October.

Last month my dad passed away suddenly aged 52 from an undiagnosed heart condition. He was a keen triathlete, and was in training to complete his second half ironman in November. I have decided I want to compete in our local summer series next summer in honour of my dad.

It wont be easy - although I work with a personal trainer 5 times a week, I still have a lot of weight to lose before I will be fit enough to compete in October.

I am hoping that by joining this forum, I will be able to stay motivated and gain knowledge on this wonderful sport.

Jessica, deeply deeply sorry for your loss. Having his spirit live on in you in inspiration is wonderful. As you know, it won't be easy, but nothing worth having ever is. Hope it keeps you connected with him in inspiring ways. You'll find a lot of good advice and support on this forum. Best of luck!

Welcome, Jessica.  I'm so sorry to hear about your dad.  Taking up his beloved sport is a lovely way to honor him.  You'll find that BT is a great resource.  I really encourage you to check out the mentoring groups.  I've developed some pretty cool friendships in the group I'm in, plus I get all kinds of advice, support and inspiration.  For answers to specific questions, you can also search through the Triathlon Talk forum--there is a TON of great information there.

Again, welcome and hope to see you around the site.

Already a cyclist and not a bad swimmer, I figured all I had to do was build up to running a few miles and I’d be ready to go. The challenge invigorated me, and I ran out to buy new running shoes.
