Do anyone else's socks / feet get incredibly sweaty while running? I was out for my long run on Sunday and after about 7 miles I had a loud squish and release of water (sweat) coming out of my shoes every step I took. I don't mind the noise but the feeling is just awful. I am a heavy sweater by nature and do live in TX where it's generally around 90 when I run, but I'm thinking of registering for my first 70.3 (Austin) and I'm wondering how I'm going to get my long runs in when this keeps happening. I run in Thorlo's which as far as I'm aware as supposed to be pretty good at keeping your feet cool.

You can use food powder. I actually came across some stuff today by accident. The name caught my attention...

LOL. I think it's similar to Gold Bond powder. If you buy the monkey butt stuff, at least leave it out when you have parties as a conversation starter.

Something else to try...

I use my truck as an aid station. I have water, energy drink, towel, etc. I break up my long runs into 3-5 mile runs that route back to my truck. Keep an extra pair of socks at your car/truck. I also park at the YMCA in case nature calls.
Works great in the winter. I start off with a jacket and ditch it after the first three miles.

Just because you have a long run doesn't mean you can't break it up into shorter laps.

Just a thought.

This question has come up a few times over the years. There was even a whole conversation about drilling holes in the soles of your shoes so the water can drain. Some people believe calf compression sleeves help.

I personally have just switched to Balega wool socks and it works pretty well, or best as can be expected. I still rate my summer runs by the squishy factor though. The squishy factor is the mile at which my feet begin to squish. Seven is pretty common but it's lower when it's really hot and humid.

Try different socks. Some absorb and distribute the sweat better than others.

I had similar problem and another BTer recommended the generic socks at Road Runner Sports. They worked much better than what I had been using and used them for a number of IM runs and long training runs.

I use the thinnest polyester socks that I can find. I actually find them at Target for $1.50/pair. I also saw them at Dunhams 10 for $5.

I have done a lot of hot weather races and at these you are dumping as much ice and water and any other fluid all over your body. Your shoes and socks are going to get soaked. You need to have a shoe/sock plan that includes running in sopping wet footwear. Like everything else related to racing, you need to work out your plan while training.

I have a couple pairs of Smartwool socks that are incredibly thin and seem to reduce the sweat buildup but I don't like the feeling of such a thin sock when I run. the Thorlo's have a nice forefoot and heel pad which I find provide a lot of comfort especially when the miles start to add up. I'm going to try using powder before this Sunday's long run and if I'm still squishing around as a few of you have mentioned, I guess I'll just have to learn to deal with it!

I'm in TX too and I don't truly believe the squishy shoes and wet socks are avoidable (at least not if you're a heavy sweater like me).  I can manage about 60-80 minutes fine, but for longer runs, I'll do a looped course that allows me to change shoes and socks for the last bit.  Thankfully, my runs are never longer than two hours, so one mid-run change is fine (but the second set gets wet faster because my feet are already sweating!).

Yeah, at 85+, I always get the sloshing / squishy effect from sweat buildup in the shoes. I don't think you can avoid it, honestly, at those temps. I've even gotten it doing intervals on a track at night at 84F. Shouldn't affect your race/training though.

Over the last several years there has been increasing interest in, and use of, graded compression socks by athletes for training, racing, and recovery. Advertisements for these garments claim much.

I didn’t used to like to run slow. You begin to recalibrate your needs and wants and if-only you could jog an easy two miles, three times per week. Running is a gift.
