Subject: Bike Too Small?
Hi everyone,
I bought my Cannondale Slice last year (54cm) but had been riding my road bike more often (BMC / 56cm). Recently, I've been riding the Cannondale more often and consequently, been trying to dial in the fit more. I've reached a position where I'm reasonably comfortable, but still not quite. I'm beginning to think the frame may actually be a bit too small for me. FYI, I'm 1.8m tall.

Any thoughts? (Pardon the shirtless-ness...forgot to put on a shirt, as I was working on the bike)

I don't know that I'd say the frame is too small, so much as maybe a bit short of front-center. That stem looks pretty long to me (just my thought). Your position looks good, though. What % of your weight is on the front wheel?*

* To measure, if you don't know, put a scale under the front wheel while the bike is on the trainer, get on and ride, and note the number on the scale. Then get off the bike, pull the bike off the trainer, and weigh yourself and the bike. Calculate the % of the you+bike weight is actually supported by the front wheel.

The stem is 120mm. I don't yet have access to a scale, but I'll have to give that a try..thanks!

I would say that it's too small for you… with a 120mm stem already and it looks like you need quite a bit more reach, it's going to be tough to make it long enough for you.

At 180cm, unless you have a very unusual body morphology, I would say you need to be on a 58cm or maybe a 56cm Slice (although even that may be too short for you…). I've fitted quite a few people on Slice's and they do have a short reach to start with, so if you have a short upper body, they tend to work ok.

Thanks for the insight; kinda confirmed what I was thinking. I do have a longer torso than legs, which from what I hear, seems to be quite the opposite of the Slice's geometry.

Unfortunately yes… Not picking on you, but a general statement… This is why it's important to get a bike fit BEFORE purchasing a bike. For the same money, a different brand may offer a better fit.
