I live in mountain view and although foothill/portelo loop is great, I'm getting a little tired of it. I ventured into the city and did the paradise loop on the weekend, but holy crap its getting cold there now!!

Can anyone recommend some good routes in the mid to south bay that isn't painfully hilly and has a little vista/lunch stop options? I need some new scenery.

Thanks!

Caren-

Are you a member of any tri club like SVTC, they have rides weekly, different routes etc. I used to have my office in Palo Alto and did the Portola loop a lot, ride up to Skyline, Old LaHonda, Canada road etc. which is all good riding. Mountains are part of the deal, good for you ;-) I do a lot of riding now from Los Gatos down to Morgan Hill and Gilroy through the Uvas canyon (McKean rd etc. past Cinnabar golf club), easily 50 miles + out and back. Good scenery!

I'm just so tired of the loop and foot hill. Need a change of pace. Are there good rides in LG? I might just join a group. Right now I'm doing TNT, but my race is in 2 weeks and need an outlet thereafter.

Thanks for the recommendations!

Los Gatos has a lot of mountain bike riding, not that great for road riding, I usually venture up the peninsula towards Palo Alto, Woodside or down to Almaden towards Morgan Hill....SVTC is a good club to join if you are in Mountain View http://www.svtriclub.org/

Good luck on BigK, should be a nice ride up the coast, I'm still planning on racing that one, too...

Thanks, yes I've heard of them and will most likely join for my next season. I'm going to do a marathon over the winter I think.

Big K - if you see a tall blond with a canadian flag on her bike say hello...that's me

I did the Napa Valley Marathon this year, it's usually first week of March, perfect timing to get it out of the way of your tri season, plus great venue, the entire length of the Silverado trail, drink wine before and after! Keep an eye out for you at BigK!

If you're riding in Woodside, be careful.  A very aggressive driver tried to run me off the road last weekend - it seemed deliberate under the circumstances.   It's my understanding that the residents of Woodside are not especially happy with the large # of cyclists who ride through their community.
