Breaking Presta Valves :(

 8 |  Subject: Breaking Presta Valves :(I literally can't pump up my tires without busting the Presta valves. I'm leaving the nut where it is, unscrewing the little cap at the top all the way, putting on the adapter, putting my pump on, pumping them up, taking my pump off... and then when I take the adapter off (it doesn't stay in the floor pump well) the valve blows up. Am I doing it wrong? Need a new adapter or pump? I'm so sick and ashamed of going to the LBS every time I need some air... |

1055 | Subject: RE: Breaking Presta Valves :( They are somewhat fragile. You've got to make sure when you clamp on the pump that you are not applying lateral force. If that isn't the issue, I'd say the pump needs replacing. |

| 3 | Subject: RE: Breaking Presta Valves :( Maybe stop using the adapter? I'm assuming you're referring to the adapter that allows you to use a standard (schrader) valve connection on the pump. Get a pump that is presta specific, and be careful to only push/pull directly inline with the valve. |
